The Shrews seem happy just to have reached the play offs? https://www.not606.com/threads/were-not-going-up-were-not-going-up.361755/ We need to be positive on Thursday, I think a one goal lead taken to the former Gay Meadow would be enough. Woke up this morning feeling fine. AllHell
For those of you who watched our game on TV yesterday, did the atmosphere in the away end come across ?
The atmosphere was very good, although it quietened once the reports were coming back from pikey land of Plymouth being beaten.
Yes it did. Charlton fans could clearly be heard pretty much from start to finish. We heard you ask Robinson if he was watching...
Tarique Fosu is back in training, and it is hoped that he can play some part in the Play Off Semi Finals. Thursday night may come too soon for him, but he may be deployed on Sunday in the 2nd leg. This is great news - as with Kashi, he is a player you really notice when he is not in the team. Who will start up front tomorrow night ? Not Kaikai or Zyro, FFS !
It will be the old guard, Magennis and Ajose. Hopefully Fosu will be used wisely. If he's not ready don't risk aggravating the injury.
i dunno if it's just me, but i don't feel that excited about this playoff at all. seems like twitter has been taken over by kids who want everyone to be up for this game. i'm contemplating even not going such is my thoughts on it all. this team just doesn't feel like a charlton team. half the players aint even ours and if we didn't get to the play-offs, the club would have been well sold by now. that's what I'm waiting to get excited by - RD leaving. and that's it.
I know what you are saying SIG, but I don't think we have any choice but to be excited. The thought of another season in this league is horrible We have been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team under Bowyer...which side will turn up tomorrow night ? The free flowing one we saw at Northampton, or the bland one we saw at Rochdale?
yeah, but what happens when or if we go up? the price goes up, people may not want to buy us and we're stuck with RD for longer. we get more loans in and struggle for an entire season until we're inevitably relegated. we'd be in a worse state than we are now as players will have been flogged for profit - aribo, konsa, anyone half decent. we wont see a penny of the tv money increase because that's all RD is in it for. all the current loans will have gone. bowyer will have probably been fired and replaced by some pig farmer from belgium for not being able to make the one legged blind man we signed from our scouting network score 20 a season. i want us to go up. but i want RD gone more. i think we'll make the final and then it'll be one step too far for us.
All achademic at the minute SiG, as I expect Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Rotherham will all want a say in who goes up. A month ago I tought I'd be happy just getting into the play offs (I am but...) but now we are here I want to win. However, while our form has picked up in the last month, Scunthorpe made us look damned silly with Bowyer in charge, ad it's honours even between us and the Shrews. Gonna be tough.
The day has arrived. Massive game at the Valley tonight and talk online of attendance possibly pushing up towards 20,000. I know that kind of thing has been heard before but if there ever was a game where a big crowd might make a vital difference then here it is... If the crowd does turn out to be upwards of 18,000 then it's going to be the highest this season and probably the highest for Charlton in a couple of years. It's a special game of course, but for a weekday evening again a fantastic turnout and surely a terrific atmosphere. A fairly warm evening after a cloudy afternoon predicted on the weather front; the temperature supposedly comfortably in double figures still well into the evening with little chance of rain. I'm getting away from work as early as circumstances will allow, but probably still won't be in SE7 until nearly 6pm. Fortunately a visit to the ticket office isn't necessary for me personally but I hope everybody who is buying their tickets on the night will get into the ground in good time. I understand extra staff will be working today, but if the queues are still very long with kick-off time approaching I would hope a short delay (15 minutes maybe) would be considered. After all this game does not have to be synchronised with any other, although Sky Sports would probably not be happy about the disruption to their schedule. I think that barring more bad luck with injuries tonight our team will be able to go to Shrewsbury and avoid defeat on Sunday. So even a one goal advantage at full time this evening could well be enough. Of course more than that would be a fantastic result. Come on you Reds!
Our defence is very reliable. The problem is that without Fosu we lack creativity. We can't rely on Pearce's arse, or a Page worldy, so we need Reeves to return to the form he was in a month ago. Could be extra time and penalties at Shrewsbury.
Nerves starting to kick in. Can feel a 1-0 or a 2-1 win. Just can’t see us going through without a win tonight, but stranger things have happened. Let’s see where we are at 21;30.
The last time I felt as optimistic as this was when Sheffield United knocked us out of the cup. This has been a bonus us getting into this position, so should we get turfed out I will just have to take it on the chin.
