I absolutely hate the parachute payment system but if it is going to continue to exist then the sooner we can get in a position to possibly benefit from it the better. Teams who have these kind of figures to factor into the whole FFP budget will soon be leaving those who don't in their ever increasing wake. Even getting promoted and getting relegated straight away puts you at a huge advantage. I understand it is to help pay the wages of higher profile players, but 4 years of parachute payments is far too much! 3 years maybe, but 2 years would get my vote.
What's wrong with writing wage decreases into a players contract to protect you in the event of relegation, or is that too obvious?????
I agree that would be great, but unless there is something like an 'enforced 30% wage drop' written into the rules then there will always be clubs willing to risk it - so to stay competitive in the transfer market the rest of the teams will probably have to match them.
