Is the following match report a fair relection on the game? http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2011/10/report-nottingham-forest-0-city-1/ In particular the following paragraph? If Mclean is being cut out of the match, what change do you make? The layman says a like for like. You want spring heels? Mclean has them, but Dele Adebola has the height and bulk to make aerial battles much more indelicate and inelegant. But we have such a shrewd coach. Instead of hauling off Mclean to introduce Cityâs biggest of units, he took off Brady (who was shocking anyway), spread the midfield thinner, sent Mclean a little more wide and forced Forest to switch their man-marking job on to Adebolaâs shoulders. Now Mclean had the same freedom as Fryatt. And Forest didnât know what to do. It was genius. One of the best tactical switches I can remember a City gaffer making.
Yes - stirring stuff, John! Maybe a bit 'rose-tinted', but I wasn't there to see it and I've only had the R Humb commentary and other posters' words/feelings to go by. But I do like the paragraph you spot-lit: the substitution of Adebola for Brady. In Nigel we trust! UTT! TFFT!
The League Show highlighted the substitution as well. Said it made the difference in the attacking play.
That was an accurate report. They bossed the midfield in the first half (with the assistance of the officials) but couldn't do anything with it because our defence was far too well drilled. We came out in the second half as if the whole team had decided that Forest were there for the taking. We got more possession, made more half chances and when Adebola came on they seemed to panic. They had one stinging shot which Basso somehow kept out, then McClean took his goal really well and finished them off. I hope he isn't too badly injured because he's definitely a confidence player and I think this could be the start of a flood of goals from him.
Agreed. That finish was the best I've seen in ages. Absolutely drilled it in the corner straight along the floor.
True but Adebola had a lot to do with the extra space our forwards had in the second half and McClean exploited it well. It says in the report; " but it emphasised further the way the City sub had altered Forest’s thinking at the back. Suddenly, Mclean wasn’t an issue. There were allegedly bigger dangers to snuff out. And as they diverted their attention to the red herring in the XL shirt, Mclean was able to benefit." That is spot on, it's not neccessarily what he did with the ball, but more to do with how the opposition were forced to change their game-plan. I think Dele could prove to be valuable to us.
Suppose not My opinions on the match. -City were resolute and pretty muched stopped everything Forest gave. -Set Pieces were the best method of scoring for Forest. -We didn't have many chances but neither did they, Majewski's effort being the odd one out. -As the report said Brady didn't do an awful lot. Same should be said of Cairney but he's not a naturalised winger. -Hobbs got alot of praise from what i heard at the match and on the radio after. Back 4 should have the same priase heeped on them. They were all good on saturday. -Basso might be the best all round keeper i've seen at City- he makes great saves and he comes off his line and goes for balls in the air and generally wins them. A trait Myhill wasn't the best on. -The Adebola, McKenna subs worked a treat. -Hope Mclean hasn't actually done anything serious as the squad is thread bare as it is. -Class support from the City fans all match. Nice ground as well. UTT!
You are right there, I thought it was a very well put together report, pity the HDM cannot emulate it.
