I will be going to this game Saturday. John Mousinho & Elliott Hewitt have gone back to their respective clubs. Let's look back at supporter opinions last time we met in October at Priestfield: League One Gillingham 2-1 Notts County Tue 22 Oct 24th v 17th views and team line ups please...
Well the squad is back to being threadbare again. Linganzi might be fit for this weekend but he will probably still start on the bench. Also does anyone know why on saturday we played in the dodgy replica kits that are on sale in the shop that have the gfc sign rather than Vandanel logo on? My team for Sat considering its the best of the rest: ---------------------------Nelson-------------------------- Harriman-------Daniels------------Davies---------Martin ----------------Hollands----------------Lee---------------- Whelpdale-----------------Dack--------------------***an ---------------------------Kedwell(c)----------------------- Whether that happens or not, who knows?
......................................Nelson..................................... Harriman...........Daniels.................Davies..............Martin Weston..............Dack.................Hesenthaler.........***an ......................................Kedwell................................... ......................................McDonald................................ I know people will give me the lack of experience talk but we've been going with experience, time for a change.
This is worth a look, shows that we are ok against teams in the bottom 6 but rubbish against the rest. http://www.kickoff.co.uk/teams/?team_id=96&area=results
Interesting point Grumpy. Most of the bottom 6 games have been at home too. So we might expect Gills to have hope of a good result in just 4 of the next 10 games and these are all away. More likely, without any deterioration in performance we should expect the Gills to slide down the table in the next couple of months, and if they do not, it will have been a notable achievement by PT.
True. But I expect our supporters will still be suicidal and calling for heads if we do slip even a bit down the table And it's going to be even harder now we've lost 2 of the loanees. If we can get to the January window in an ok sort of shape, we will have done very well.
I am getting mixed up Keefy! The point I was making is that you have to interpret results with due regard to the opposition and Gills have just had an "easy" run which is now going to be followed by some tough games. a slide down the table is very probable and we have to expect the usual whinge at PT. The fact is that MA assembled a poor squad, the money seems to have been blown and even Fergie would have little hope of reviving what we have got. I feel sorry for PT trying to clear up a mess which was none of his making without the tools to do the job.
Agree. We were warned quite clearly when MA came in. Yes, we enjoyed the moment of picking up a League Two trophy as suddenly Gillingham became the team to support. However, reality was staring us in the face and only the blinkered never saw the trouble's a foot as the glimmer of shiny silverware blinded our eyes. I don't blame PT but i will eventually if he does not give our young one's a chance and if he does not relieve Barrett of that captain's armband. PT needs to clearly stamp his mark and he does not have to rely on loanee's to do that.
I think it's time to change things around. I don't think PT will be this adventurous but I would like to see this team at Notts -------------------------------------------------Nelson-------------------------------------------------- Harriman---------------------------Daniels-----------------------Barrett-------------------Martin -------------Whelpdale------------------------Hollands--------------------------***in------------------ -----------------------------------------------Kedwell( he spends most of his time here anyway)-------------------- -----------------------------Bayo----------------------------Cody---------------------------------------------- This keeps Keds in the side but allows Cody and Bayo to resume their partnership
I suggested a preseason line up with Keds behind Bayo and Cody. I'd love to actually see it in a match.
Some local info for those travelling to Notts County...http://www.footballgroundguide.com/notts_county/ Where To Drink? There are a few pubs around the ground that let away supporters in and are quite friendly and serve good real ale. Steve from the Pie Fanzine website informs me; 'On the main London Road, just across from the hump back bridge over the canal, is the newly refurbished and renamed Globe. A comfortable open-plan pub with good food and 5 ever-changing real ales and is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide(however no children are allowed). Just the other side of Trent Bridge (although mercifully facing away from that rusting monstrosity with a red tree painted on the side!) is the Southbank Bar, the Globe's sister pub. It also serves excellent food and has sport on the numerous televisions; three real ales are offered here including one from the tiny local Mallards brewery. Just across from the front of the station down Queensbridge Road is the "Vat and Fiddle" situated next door to the Castle Rock micro-brewery. It offers ten real ales and hot and cold food. Children are welcome'. It is also listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Chris Rhoades recommends; the 'Trent Bridge Inn on Radcliffe Road, which is a Wetherspoons outlet'. Whilst Tim Cooke a travelling Millwall fan has a different angle (so to speak); 'definitely one for the lads! Hooters (on the main road A6011, on the outskirts of the city centre, you can't miss it!) has very nice waitresses wearing just enough to cover things up, serves lovely beer, and great food. Take my advice, make a weekend of it, Nottingham is a top city!' Alcohol is also available within the ground. If you are arriving by train and have a bit of time on your hands, then I would suggest that you check out the âOlde Trip To Jerusalemâ. This historic pub dates back to the 12th century and some of the rooms are âcave likeâ having been carved out of the rock that Nottingham Castle is situated upon. Add real ale, food and a small beer garden, then it is certainly worth a visit. It is about a five minute walk away from the train station. As you come out of the station turn right. At the top of the road turn left and then take the second right into Castle Road. Just tucked away on the left is the pub. There is also the Waterfront complex of bars (including a Wetherspoons outlet) which is a short walk from the train station. As you come out of the station turn right and cross over to the other side of the road (As you cross the bridge going over the canal you can see the complex). At the top of the road turn left and the Waterfront complex is just down on the left, located behind the buildings on the main road.
Know a few people who have been to Nottingham for stag do's. Apparently the 12th century pub thats under the castle is really good too.
Looking at PT's comments its looks as though Allen may be on the bench ***an is out Gregory is still out Linganzi is still out (may be on the bench) Kedwell possibly on bench having only trained one day this week Think we may see Cody & Bayo starting
Disagree in part. The sqaud MA pulled together wasn't poor, it was capable of gaining promotion, which it did by a impressive margin. The team was full of fighters, maybe not the most technically proffiecnt players but they had a never die spirit which saved many points in the final minutes of a game. Now, with hindsight, we can see that that set of players are struggling with the step up in standard of football but without those players and MA we would still be languishing in the basement division. Maybe Allen underestimated the difference in quality between the leagues but that is his only sin, and should not be reflected on the playing staff.
Sorry BSG...but I believe Hessy was on the verge of gaining us promotion from League Two, maybe not in the same style as MA and certainly not with a personality as strong has MadDog's maangement style. But I believe he would have achieved it and with a far younger team. A team that would have stood it's ground in League One. Allen's greatest skill lay with his psychological skills towards the supporters. That's the sign of a true character, one that is loved. However, he never fooled me, comments of building a side to smash league one was probably the day I switched off ever being able to take the fella seriously. To also come back to another point the so called impressive margin we won the title by, was almost laughable, a points total i predicted but never ever thought it would be enough to win us a title. The League was poor and we struggled near the end, relying on everything built up before January, when the tide turned and the crazy man eventually lost the plot. To be honest he was good for four months, not really a great statistic in my book but his CV will always show a silver pot. I hasten to add I'm not speaking bad of the man just saying how i see it through my eyes. He's a bit like Father Chirstmas turning up in his red trousers to bring you the presents as a kid. Once the gifts are all open the kid becomes bored and plays with an empty box, the problem with this box it belong's to Pandora.
I think Gillingham will line up as follows....................... --------------------------Nelson---------------------------------- Harriman--------Daniels----------------Barrett----------------Martin ----------------Hollands---------------Hessenthaler------------------ Lee--------------------Whelpdale------------------------------Weston -------------------------Kedwell-------------------------------------- Subs: Howard (GK), Legge, Davies, Allen, Dack, Akinfenwa, McDonald I think we will miss Elliott Hewitt and John Mousinho as both players have gone back to Ipswich Town and Preston North End for treatment on their respective injuries and once again Gillingham will be down to the bare bones as the squad will now pick itself. Hopefully Peter Taylor has realized that with the current players we have got in the squad we just cannot play four midfielders in midfield, we were too static, too easy to cut open and too easy to tear apart against Rotherham United last Saturday, but also we lack the quality, creativity and the pace in midfield to get behind defences or cut a team open with a defence splitting pass, we need the security of a fifth midfielder in midfield and we do need to play with two defensive holding midfielders. I know that comes across as negative and inviting the pressure onto our defence but I don't think we can afford to keep giving teams chance after chance to score goals and create constant attacks without having two additional players to protect the back four. I think Donervon Daniels will start but I don't like the idea of a centre back in the heart of our defence who is in-capable of headering the ball and unable to go up against physical strikers, Leon Legge may well have terrible control and distribution of the ball but he can win his defensive headers and away from home you have to be prepared for a aerial bombardment. I would start Jake Hessenthaler alongside Danny Hollands tomorrow and we mind as well chuck Jake in and see what he can do, no-one has played or performed really well on a consistent basis for Gillingham in midfield this season and I heard some really decent reports from Margate about how composed Jake Hessenthaler is in possession of the ball and we mind as well give him a opportunity to start tomorrow. Meadow Lane will be a new ground for me to tick off tomorrow, and hopefully Gillingham can pick up three valuable points - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
