This was a hard fought encounter with Argyle on the back foot for long periods.....County although mid-league have a good home record and are hard to beat. Adams probably didn't want to throw in Carey to start with....coming back from an injury so he left him on the bench and played Josh Simpson.....he brought back Sawyer but surprisingly left McHugh on the bench as well.....Tanner started as did Wylde. Adams could see that we where coming second best and being kept under pressure and he needed to change things around....so mid first half he brought on McHugh to tighten things up at Wylde's expense.....the BBC said he was injured but elsewhere it was seen as tactical. By then we where already 1-0 up.....Reid was allowed to turn in the box and he beat the goalkeeper to put Argyle into the lead.....even with Argyle in the lead...Adams made the change to counteract County's dominance....not afraid of being bold our manager.....it was mentioned on pasoti that Wylde looked rather miffed being replaced....because he wasn't having a bad game. With Argyle riding the storm and Luke playing well....a second Reid goal clinched the three points with only four minutes of the ninety to play.....excellent result and increased our lead at the top to three points. So how did you see it Lindy....not so easy just following it on the BBC website.....waiting for your views.
He was unhappy at being taken off, at that point we were getting battered, the pair in the middle and one was a lad called smith... Reid could have had a hat trick near the ebnd apart from a good save. Job well done and 3 excellent points..
The reason for the substitution in my opinion was that Sawyer was being roasted by his marker and Wylde was doing nothing to help him out at all. Adams said he was not well. I'd say having seen his face he was as sick as a parrot at being subbed. I'd also say it was his own fault to some degree. Argyle got a roasting by Notts for almost the 90 minutes but without Notts actually doing much with all of the possession they had. Luke was comfortable with most of their supposed numerous efforts and apart from hitting the post once and a dipping deflection on another occasion they never looked much like scoring. Reid was immense today and it is obvious when his confidence is up he is a real threat. He took a punted ball out of the air on his thigh, outside the box, turned in one movement and slotted it past the keeper from the edge of the box. Brilliant. Our defence defended the box well and cut out a lot in the end but none of them could be said to have been great. Their distribution of the ball out of defence was terrible and they spent most of the time giving the ball back to Notts. We held on stoutly so they did their job if not pretty to watch. Went in at halftime 1 - 0 to the good but hardly anyone could say how. Second half and it started exactly as the first had ended. After a while though I thought Notts ran out of steam a bit and we took over more of the play. We did better than they did with the ball then. Carey came on and did what Carey does well. He should have won a penalty. It was odds on all the way but the Ref was never going to give us anything much. Talking of the Ref he was rubbish to Reid all day long. What Reid had to do to get a decision I don't know. He was a homer for sure and I have been saying all season it's something we never seem to get. Anyway, enough of him. Towards the end of the half the ball was played through to Reid who ran clear and the keeper saved. Jervis was following up, got the ball and crossed the thing again to Reid who confidently stroked it in. 2 - 0 against most of the play and that's how it ended. We were not good but we won. Promotion form all day long.
I thought Notts County huffed and puffed but as noted above, didn't look particularly clever in what they created. We didn't have much of the ball but when we did get forward, looked a lot more controlled amd more likely to score. County have apparently spent a lot of money but I think we've got significantly better value! We finished the stronger team and the Greenarmy support was fantastic. It wasn't just the referee who was a homer. David effing Prutton in the commentary box was laughable. Didn't he get a red card against us some years back and subsequently made a fool of himself by mouthing off? At one point, Jervis went past the full back on the edge of the box and got a pull on the arm from the defender which was sufficient to half turn him and break his stride. Prutton had this down as a 50:50. Why would a forward engage in arm-wrestling a defender he'd already gone past? Adams doesn't mess about does he? I'm a Wylde fan but we were getting roasted down that side and he did the right thing to make the change rather than wait for half time. Reid was excellent. I rarely give my mental MotM just becaase of goals scored but he was a thorn in County's side throughout. How he got booked for diving I have no idea apart from the fact the ref had already booked a County player for the same thing. There was significant contact and I don't think Reid exaggerated the effects in the slightest.
Looking through their very large playing staff.....I counted 22 players who joined County during 2015.....after relegation they had quite a few coming and going.....by Christmas they might be starting to know each others names....and even know who might be in their best eleven.
Allegedly, they spent £150k on the transfer fee for one player, Izale McLeod. He wasn't bad, being about 60% as effective as Reuben Reid if you ignore the 2 goals Reaid scored! He was also the so-and-so who was booked for a blatant dive based on no contact at all, for which Reid later got an undeserved "balancer" from the ref. Imagine what Adams could do if he actually had 6-figure sums to spend.... Not that he's any good at all as a manager, should fans from any other clubs read this.
