The third part of the Nottingham trilogy as wee Billy brings his Forest side northwards for a cup replay which he probably didn't want. Again line ups will depend on the Saturday matches but think Forest will play Lansbury which will make a difference to their side. Since the first match they've tonked both Watford and Yeovil and Cox is now in goal scoring form. It's on BT Sport for all you lucky people, forecast is for 80mph winds and heavy rain basically just a normal day this winter, should make it interesting maybe we had the best chance of winning at the City ground but you never know.
Listened to the game on Radio 5Ex. I sounded like a ding-dong of a match. Billy got his team to defend like 'lions'. Higginbotham. the 'expert', said the poblem with NE was that the NE wide men were not centring past the first defender. This would be infuriating for the target men. What is indicative is tha NE have beaten 2 mediocre Championship teams but have been beaten by 2 potential Premierships teams. As they say NE is ' work in progress'.
Sadly missed my first competitive home game for 8 years because of illness, so watched on BT. First thought we played really well last night apart from the putting the ball in the net. Give credit to Forest thought both goals were excellently taken although defensive blunders did lead to both. Thought Davies was unlucky to be penalised for a foul on the keeper when the ball appeared to have gone in. Yes he could have been sent off. Penalties could have had two at least but we got one on Saturday which wasn't so swings and roundabouts. Thought Welsh was excellent, maybe we should have started with Gallagher and Garner but Saturday in my mind is a more important game. Chris Humphrys is a bit of an enigma but he does a lot of work down the right hand side, pity about his final ball (picked up by Gary McAllister on commentary) BT gave us praise for the pitch, casts your mind back 12 months you can see what they mean. As for Billy, give him credit he was honest in his views of the game. But one thing I did notice is that we are a more than decent passing football team
Hope you are better now, Maclad. I listened to the match on 5Ex and it sounded like a belter of a game. It seemed as though NE just lacked that finesss iin delivering the final ball. I was at that match in January 64 when Howard Kendall scored a scorcher of a goal. It had started snowing during the match but there could havr been a 10 on the Richter scale earthquake for all we cared. We beat Liverpool in further rounds and some of my school friends were from L'pool had their come-uppance! My Father got tickets for Wembley but the Headmaster would not let us two Prestoners go to the match.
Still got the cold hence not venturing anywhere today, wasn't living in the area in 1964 saw the game in glorious black and white, wasn't a supporter then but did support them on the day, little did I know then that disappointment would haunt my North End dreams on a regular occurance.
