I'd like to state this before tomorrow's game and to make my own concience feel a little bit more at ease. The phrase 'It's not personal it's just business' comes to mind, that phrase has been used to me a few times in my life and I hate it but it seems appropriate at this time with regard to Lee Johnson, now the words toxic and divisive has entered the airways I wish to make crystal clear my own feelings with regard to Lee.. On a day to day level in normal life I have a high regard for Lee Johnson, I think he is a very honourable, respectable, honest, family man with a high work ethic, his attitde to life runs pretty close to the rest of us, he contributes to society, continues to work hard, pay's his way, means no harm to anyone and is a fine person for the way he seems to live his life. Unfortunately for Lee and the majority of us he has taken up the challenge of Bristol City Football Club at which he has failed dismally, the worst continual run of bad results performed by any manager in our history, no away wins in 5 months, reportedly from JP needs help with his workload, verbally has said he can only play certain players he can trust, not for their ability or maturity to perform, causing distrust and disharmony amongst the team members, he uses uncertain tactics or structures on the field of play, self admission of making tactical errors during games, all the repetitive waffle and excuses after the match, it goes on and on and I won't list anymore, we all know the issues and failures. Our club has become an embarrassment in our own city and around the country and he is the leader of the playing staff and he continues to fail.... So nothing personal outside of football to Lee Johnson but he has to go... Sorry Lee, " NOTHING PERSONAL, IT'S JUST BUSINESS ~ FOOTBALL BUSINESS..
largely agree with what you say wize and I do have some sympathy for jnr,the word toxic has been bandied about a lot recently and that's exactly what some of the more spiteful and vicious attacks on him have been, especially on otib. now I don't know whether its a generational thing, but there seems to be a "right of expectation" not just about the club but a lot of society in general, has this x factor feel, where if you want something really really badly it will happen with minimal work involved.
We've been heading to this extremely sad situation for years and if Lansdown was expecting Lee Johnson to fill the bill of superman then he was sadly off the mark. Many promises made and even more broken which just about sums up Bristol City.
IMHO LJ should have continued to cut his teeth in L1 for a while longer and as for Lansdown, and what has transpired since, then words almost fail me.
Perhaps Lee will make a good manager one day but his apprenticeship has fallen off the rails at Bristol City. Like you I find it difficult to find the words to express my exasperation at what seems to be long difficult road again for my team again.
Made difficult by individuals who cant, or wont admit they are getting it horribly wrong Mike. Two names spring to mind....... The current (and awful) position we find ourselves in has been wholly avoidable had a little bit of common sense been applied.
Now there's a thought - common sense- how come nobody came up with that before? How difficult would it be?
We would not have been relegated from the championship before if we had dropped Fontaine and signed a decent defender in his place. Common sense has never been in abundance at board, manager or owner level. Its got so bad I keep thinking SL wants us to go down and I am missing something.
I think most of us are asking the same questions Red Hub, but have you noticed we never get any answers?
Since the abolition of the shareholders meeting there is no accountability and we are being run like North Korea.
No you're not missing anything - Top of the league in February/March 2008 and in the Transfer Window the previous month we bought cheapish players like Adebola and Carle when automatic promotion beckoned. I like to think we'd have actually won the league with a few decent signings, even if they were loans.
It's taken him another 8 years before he really released the purse strings to sign players. This was such an error at the time that was obvious to everyone else but him then, it seems history does repeat itself!!
