It is very difficult to drum up any enthusiasm for the St Leger Festival (another triumph of marketing over reality – if there are more than two consecutive days, call it a Festival) and Friday looks no different.

The two that I fancy are both going to be short-priced favourites, so I think I will sit it out.

The Queen’s Estimate ought to be able to collect the Doncaster Cup, which will provide more than ample compensation for the money that she lost because of a dodgy bag of feed. The chief rival is obviously hat-trick seeking Times Up but she had him behind at York and he might want it softer.

Muraaqaba owes me nothing after atoning for her Ascot defeat with victory in the Sweet Solera Stakes last time and as the ground looks like no issue for her she will be hard to beat in the May Hill Stakes.

I assume that Jamie Spencer has chosen Mind Of Madness over unbeaten Ainippe in the Flying Childers but the race looks wide open with it possible to make cases for half a dozen. The rest of the card makes no appeal for the same reason.

Sad to hear of the passing of Sir Donald Sinden - a fine actor and I'm sure Dex would agree that he was the perfect foil for Windsor Davies in the classic antiques business comedy "Never The Twain". RIP.

Estimate should really win this event today. It seems she'll appreciate the 18f rather than the 16f of her last 2 races, and she has no penalty. But she'll be no price.

Shane Kelly never seems to ride a winner for Stoute but I expect a much better show from Capel Path in the 2.20 at Sandown.

Peacock is on a recovery mission at Town Moor with Ryan taking over in the saddle. I'll watch with interest.

    Sad news indeed Oddy.

I managed to catch an excellent episode of Never The Twain last evening on ITV3 and will no doubt do the the same today.

"There was a dramatic climax to the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster as Cotai Glory threw away almost certain victory by unseating George Baker, gifting the race to Richard Hannon's Beacon."

Crikey are there no forumites watching the racing today? Would have thought that worthy of a post ............................. if it were Spencer he'd be getting a right old slagging <laugh>

Safe to say his ears would be burning!

Looked like the saddle slipped as well as the horse jinking...most unlucky with the race in the bag a matter of feet from the old lollipop.

Very taking debut from Christophermarlowe at Sandown there.

Took the 33s White Lake for the Guineas.

Probably unlikely but I really liked the look of him first time out, hes a good horse I think.

great riding from Ryan Moore in the last 2 at Doncaster.

Good for Sir Percy. Who said he'd be a failure? This is the first quality crop he had.

I saw the race during my lunch break in the bookies around the corner from the office. The horse was hanging to the right, into his whip. It must have been less than twenty yards from the post and he went out the left exit as the saddle slipped round. Just as well the horse had hung away from the rest of the field or George would have got a kicking from those following.

Unfortunately the moronic Microsoft web spy they use at our place blocks this site as ‘pornography’ and I did not have my laptop on me to use wi-fi.
