Am I alone in losing interest in not606? I admit I am not a regular poster, but I was reading it a few times a day when it first started, just to try and fill the hole 606 left. I have found it has become more of a club for a few people to keep their friendships going, of which I have no interest. The banter from 606 has not transferred and not606 doesn't seem as good a place to find news on Watford as 606 was. I was really hoping it would be better because the Wobby site is full of kids and bullies who want a fight when you don't agree with them, but I just can't see it.
With regards to the banter - I think there has been 2 problems why this hasn't come across. There were a number of sites popping up to replace 606, so there was the possibility different fans would go on different forums. Watford (plus a few other clubs) have had their fans come over to here, while a lot of other clubs have gone elsewhere, so you have lost that cross-club banter, especially building up to a match The other problem was the facility to do cross-club matchday threads - this has now been seen to, so hopefully we will see more of it! You also have some of the more controversial posters not cross over. 'Garry' has, but think he's popped in a couple of times! As for the info with regards to the club. I'd probably say it is better now - maybe not so much because of Not606, but just the fact you have sites like Twitter where a number of us are on, and seems to get the news much faster than even Sky does, any new news is updated on here pretty quickly!
I have to agree with Kev about the way that different sets of fans went to different sites, losing the cross club banter. I think that before 606 was closed we knew that it would happen and why so many of us tried to make a noise about it to no avail. I would also agree with Kev that the news does get here faster. If you waited for the BBC, WO or even the official site you could have a very long wait. With regards to the friendship comment. As far as I know I have only ever met two people from the site, and I would not confine my comments to them alone. I don't think I have changed much when it comes to what I write, it is still a mixture of many things including WFC of course. At the end of the day the site becomes what we the posters choose to say, some is to our liking and some isn't. So write away and I am sure that you will get a response.
The match threads are slowly coming back , we are getting visitors from other clubs , this site is the one that most clubs have turned to ! With regular upgrades and features installed ( I am still finding new stuff to try!) Site owners that listen to what we think would be good, articles getting on to Newsnow ,etc I think this is a dorward thinking and innovative site! Obviously your going to please all the people all the time ,but you can use the swear filter or ignore people if you so desire! Steve and Luther How would you design the site , any good ideas and constructive critiscism can be passed on to the site owner! Best thing here I believe is no 3 minute rule!
I can understand the complaints about Not606, though, for me, the 24 hour opening is useful. There are people I used to enjoy reading on 606. such as Mitch, who do not post here. On the other hand, there are some posters who I am pleased have disappeared. As Frenchie says, posting is what creates the feel of the site. That changes with every new regular poster.
I have to agree that of late there is very little going on and things are very quiet on here. There is a simple way of fixing this and that's for people to come online more and post more. I agree there is a group of individuals (of which I am one) who often post and are friends. But I for one am not focused on being friends with anyone. That just comes with it. There is plenty of news on here i think and we often have threads for every bit of news which has actually caused debate of late.
Match day threads are great, living in Asia for a while now I view the thread every sat , thanks to the people listening on the radio and updating regular it's in front of BBC live text which is 10 - 12 mins slower , having been a watford fan for 35 years and followed them around the country through all divisions up until the last few years getting news from our fans at home is something I've searched for for a long time, the BBC 606 forums times of opening and closing for me was ok to catch up on news but for posting wasn't so good, there was a broader views of opinions on there from our fans which was good.some boarding ridiculous and some valid points, now this site has it's inner circle and the rest are outsiders , that's my opinion but I will say that you the inner circle are very polite and obviously educated people, you don't shout away new posters but don't really encourage views and pointers , just for the record and being a long way from home SD was in my view the wrong man to take this fantastic club forward but we've been poorly run for years I'm afraid . Over and out
I agree to some extent with all of you. To begin with 606 was a qroup of friends but over time you become one of that group. For me I tried to run the original Hornet's Nest when Yorkshirehornet decided not to do it and I started the match thread as well. I saw Hilaireous at Crystal Palace had one and a person for Swansea. Political Canary started doing one last season too. The forums are what you make of them and I enjoy this one. WFCForum is quite good but it is one club and some of the others were bad. Also I hope my english is better because of Watford FC and the supporters, you should complain more if i get something wrong.
As one who was very active in trying to get this site to rival the BBC 606 we lost I have to concede that it is falling short in my eyes. Strangely I liked more wumming than we have here - Mitch and others on 606 posted controversial comments but had real opinions - here it is horribly like facebook now - no offence intended but it is hard to be interested in following a "chat" between two or three people that goes on all night. My views have already been expressed on that with regard to the Nest - I would have a thread for "friends" to just idle away the minutes or hours. I also happen to think that the Nest was better when it got refreshed every month or so - but I was out-voted by some with strong opinions at the time and so we now have a rather jaded and "same every day Nest" There is little or no controversy here and some try to even prevent that - arguments that do not get out of hand help provide interest - everyone saying how much we agree with each other does not.
I completly agree with you Leonardo! No really, I do miss Mitch and the others - they must be somewhere - surely they can be tempted over here to give a bit of edge? Incidentaly, the 3 minute rule tended to keep people on track and to the point whilst here we continue to get 4 or 5 posts in a row with just a smile or 'I agree' or 'lol' or anything apart from an actual point to make. ps Look at the banning of Koby from the West Ham boards as an example of no free speech - ok he was a WUM but he was funny and he got replies. I'd like to add one more point - people who create threads with only a link and no story - please stop it. I would like to write a thread with a story but then I get 'visited' by someone suggesting that it should be closed because others beat you to it - What? With a link? It makes me feel that it is not worth putting an actual thread/story together.
I agree with the article and have expressed my doubts before. I too miss the banter and the wummers I am worried that it is becoming a matey club and actually this has led to me posting much less than on 606 ( some will be happy with that ) . I used to post controversial and tongue in cheek articles and enjoyed creating the article itself. Now no one cares much about the header article and articles tend to become a list of one liners which if you havent read the last few you are lost. So the whole board can be "more of the same". Even the welcome to not606 thread has tended to attract postings from regular users when really it should be there for new posters to introduce themselves etc When i started the Nest and the pre-match and match threads I had hoped that different people would do the threads over time so that it encouraged variety and the involvement of as many as possible. I also find it very clunky in design etc and that makes it less easy to read and to post. However: There are a pretty decent bunch of people on here Anyone can post and say what they like It is open 24/7 and no 3 minute rule Could be improved (and it has been said before) by: Article header staying at top Live updating Not so much blank space and all the other guff on each posting no matter how short. Cross- group posting. All in all though it is better than anything else available.... I do encourage as many people as possible to post and to create new articles. .that way we keep it growing and being inclusive ....
I also miss 606 really badly. I was the guy who created the petition which reached over 2,500 signatures and we were so close to saving it. I emailed the BBC about the petition and they said "you never know what could happen in the future" and seeing as they left an archive of the site, you never know.
Did you guys sign the petition when it was announced it would shut. If not then here is the link. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-bbc-606-sports-forum.html
Yes Alan I think everyone on the watford board here and now signed the petition Yorkshire good post with some good constructive critiscism would you mind if I forwarded it "upstairs"
Leo if you take the trouble to go to the front page of the nest ,you will find that Ak does update it and changes the features! I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his time and efforts in continually providing excellent work for us to enjoy!
Having read the comments here i have thought of two possible solutions. I am happy to start a thread which would be of topic if that's what the majority would like. The issue i have there is what would that leave for the nest? At the moment we have very few posters on a daily basis which does give the image of a friends club, if we were to have more people posting then this can change. When i first joined it was mainly 3/4 people posting as it was when the site first opened. However, there are many more members here now, they just arent posting. Obviously we cant stop the people posting so as i say others have to contribute to offset that. Secondly i would like to say that anyone can say anything. Since i became a mod i have only deleted 3/4 threads, most of which were at the request of the writer. I can not remember closing any others, if i have please let me know and i can try to explain why i did so. With regards to the duplicating of threads, i for one have no problem with 2/3 of the same thread if they are all being commented on, however there are some who would like to have the news contained to the news thread. If you wish to post something tongue in cheek or jokey comments feel free. No one will mind unless they are offensive.
That is not the same as having a new Nest as we used to on 606 - I used to look forward to the new number coming up and seeing how it compared - somehow each Nest had its own personality - we sacrificed that for the numbers club in my opinion.
Dan - when the comments become "how are you hon, lol" etc then it appeals to some and not to others - for me facebook and twitter are not areas I wish to follow and those types of post are to me more fitting to those forums (fora ?? ) We had none of that "intimate" posting on 606 - I actually agree with the earlier comment that in hindsight the 3 minute rule did actually serve some purpose. I don't have a solution though - just agreeing with some ohters that soehow this site appears to have lost some "edge" and "vitality" Only my opinion of course
Newcastle had a tilt at the numbers club !, but we held them off seriously though because of all the different threads for each and every topic there is precious little left in the nest! In the old 606 things like the riots , libya ,hanging debate and the famous menus!! were all in the nest! Now they are not ! Personally I dont think this is the right way , but bow down to the majority opinion! As mentioned above all good ideas and constructive critiscism is passed on to Mick ! Ie we wanted a phone app ,we got one we wanted match thread capability (although still in its infancy) we got one! Even over the last few weeks Leo over hundreds more have joined this site, Loads of articles are going to Newsnow, more ideas are in the pipeline! If you want me to address an issue by all means pm me
