Not a tip for tomorrow but one for Sunday from the county. TYPICAL OSCAR in the ‘lucky last’ at Uttoxeter (5.40) providing rain hits the venue between now and 'tapes up'.

Hasn’t beaten one horse home in 3 novice chases and never started shorter than 100/1 over the big 'uns, to date, but if he can't be a serious contender off 80, on his first run in a handicap, then I'd be very surprised. Ran against some very decent performers in his 3 races over fences so far (Smad Place, Just A Par, Third Intention) and its all been about getting a low perch with him thus far. Now that has been achieved expect a much different outcome on Sunday. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more...

Typical Oscar only opposed by 5, in 48 hours or so, and to be honest it doesn’t look the strongest heat ever staged. Sporting Life, at the time of writing, forecasting a very generous 8/1.

When I saw Saturday’s Longchamp card, the first thing that I noticed was that half the top French jockeys were missing. They might only be Group 2 races but they are worth decent money, so why take the day off? Then I realised that the Newmarket and Ascot cards probably offered better rewards for an away day.

I am hoping that the Group 1 feature at Headquarters will see the Gallic invasion repelled. I like Fintry and she has done nothing wrong and the Guineas winner Miss France cannot be easily dismissed if it stays dry; however, I think that Integral has been laid out for this race and she will be keeping the money in Newmarket and just down the road at Cheveley Park.

In the Oh So Sharp Stakes – that Miss France won last year – I cannot decide between the two Godolphin runners, but with the Appleby yard flying at the moment it will probably be Yodelling over Local Time.

For what it is worth at Longchamp, I like Baino Hope in the Prix Chaudenay for Jean-Claude Rouget. I will be interested to see how Ectot’s galloping companion Pinturicchio goes in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein although I actually fancy Veda for Christophe Soumillon. He may bring up a double on Zarshana in the Prix Du Royallieu, although as she is coupled she will probably not be carrying my Euros. I hope the rain does not arrive early as I do not want to get soaked watching Cirrus Des Aigles win the Prix Dollar again.

3:50 Ascot - Highland Acclaim 7/1

Had the following text last night from a friend who has given some useful info in the past "My boss came to work today and told me Dave O'Meara had told him Highland Acclaim would win at Ascot tomorrow."

Do with it what you wish.

Prince's Trust is a lightly raced 4yo colt who hadn't run over 7f before his last start (his debut this year) but turned in his best performance by nearly a stone when winning at attractive odds. Today he steps up to the big handicap at Ascot and must have at least E-W chances if he can repeat that form. Haggas puts up 5lb claimer Cam Hardie to hopefully help his chances. Interesting that he's been entered for the Challenge Stakes at Newmarket.

Too much hope that Musical Comedy could bring the first leg of a double up for Mrs Windsor. An extremely consistent colt who had never been out of the first 2 until his last run at Royal Ascot when he wasn't suited by the firmer ground. A horse who likes it soft if there's some rain his chance will improve.

Totally missed Dreaming Beauty last night and at 10-1 in a Wolverhampton handicap she had to have chances. Kept up the really good record of Cliveden Stud's Independence (the dam of Mount Nelson and Monitor Closely). Off to breeding sheds for her now.

Scoop 6 and ew 63 for me:

2:20 Newmarket - (9) Outlaw Country 7/1
2:55 Newmarket - (4) Local Time 7/2
3:05 Redcar - (22) Mattmu 13/2
3:15 Ascot - (10) Tropics 5/1
3:30 Newmarket - (3) Sky Lantern 6/1
3:50 Ascot - (4) Morache Music 18/1

Also done doubles, trebles, four fold and acca on Vazira 7/2, Veda 5/1, Zarshana 2/1, Cirrus Des Aigles 4/6, Loraa 5/4 over in France for Christophe Soumillon.

Back over here, Roger Varian has three runners with three different jockeys on, all with a great chance so patent/acca on them three aswell. I landed treble earlier in the season with this trainer under similar circumstances so thought it was time to try again:

2:05 Ascot - Steps 6/1
7:30 Wolves - Knavery 11/2
8:00 Wolves - Andretti 5/4

Away from horse racing did anyone watch the Rugby last night, one of the games of the season between Wigan/Warrington

Great to see the return of the old champion Sizing Europe today. Wonder how he'll get on, I wouldn't be backing him anyway but would be some scenes should he put them to the sword like at Punchestown!

Interesting that Richard Hughes has picked out Very Special against Hannon's fancied Osaila as his 'hottie' in the opener at Newmarket today.

He's not riding it Hawkeye, he's picked it as his 'hottie' (hot-tip) in this morning's post.

Quite fancy Integral today, and the 4/1 looks generous.

Meanwhile, over at Ascot, absolutely anything can happen on that straight course, with or without rain. A couple that look overpriced to me are Kickboxer @ 16/1 in the 2.05, and Intibaah @12/1 in the 3.15. Not confident punts at all, but I'd hope to see both outrun their prices, and the e/w double would pay a few bills.

Couldnt believe my eyes when I seen some of the prices on Stan James for the big Aussie races a while ago. my £15 max bet on Criterion actually changed the odds from 100 to 66 <laugh> Could be good business but still early days.

I can vouch for that as I have just got back from football this morning soaked through. The ground will change very quickly at this rate.

Taking the going into account at Ascot

2.05 Muthmir could be opposed with Steps.
2.40 Stick with Enke
3.15 Top 3 all have form with give under foot.
3.50 Negatives for Highland Acclaim and Redvers, Mild positives for American hope and Chill the Kite but no mudlark in the field.
4.25 Negatives for Joys of Spring but positive for Al Thakira
5.00 Negative for Tajub and positives for Dungannon and Khubula.

In short a big oppose for Muthmir

selections
Steps
Encke
Tropics
American Hope
Al Thakira
Dungannon

EW acca for me.
