2.05 Wetherby. SHOULDAVBOUGHTGOLD. 11-4. Won by 19 lengths on Monday without even trying. Jockey spent the last mile looking around as he was clearly bored. Up only 7lbs, quickly out again and has another entry on Wednesday. Win Bet.
Paddy Power Gold Cup: EASTLAKE 25/1 e.w Convinced this horse needs this trip, and having got himself into the 140 marks over 2m, if he finds some improvement for a first time tongue-tie at the new trip he could really put himself in the mix for Jason Maguire. Had a nice pipe opener under a claimer on reappearance, Jonjo should have him nice and fit now. In the 5.00 bumper, I believe the King yard have a nice mare in the shape of Dusky Legend, and at 16s is a play. She won what looked a weak Fontwell bumper but looked really nice when she found her stride and was definitely learning all the way around. A better pace will help her too.
Nice to some lovely prospects being unleashed at Punchestown this weekend. Valseur Lido in the beginners chase should develop into a nice chaser given the right conditions. Would be hopeful that Alpha des Obeaux will recoup losses from his debut in a strong looking maiden on the same card. Word is Willies in the bumper is a bit of a machine so don't be surprised should this one figure prominently in the betting for the Champion Bumper tomorrow evening. From a punting perspective I've chanced Mr Hobb's Sausilito Sunrise 11/4 in the Cheltenham 1.15. Pipe's favourite Kings Palace was overhyped last season so were getting a much better price! That Paddy Power race just leaves me completely cold, it looks an exceptionally average renewal.
As you might remember I touted Valseur Lido pretty highly last year in the lead up the Supreme Novice. He had a really good season but was put in his place by Faugheen and Vautour. I really hope he develops into a nice chaser, I think he has a good engine and plenty of speed. Good to see him out early though and hopefully he can improve over the season.
Paddy Power Gold Cup: Oscar Whiskey 11/1 ew Top class hurdler who's optimum trip over hurdles was this distance and is effective here as he is anywhere. He had a mixed bag last year in his 1st chasing season had 3 wins (2 of which were here) then fell in the festival and IMO had the confidence knocked out of him a little so the reason why he was disappointing at Aintree. Interestingly he has had a wind operation, which if you look at horses that run after a wind op they seem to have a very good strike rate. Won't mind the soft ground but the only doubt in my mind is how much he would need this run. He is the classiest horse and carries top weight for that privilege and he will need to be 110% if is to win but I have faith in Mr Henderson and he is way to big to be double figures
Another attempt at going through the card today. I think Creepy looks a serious prospect this year over fences and taking him to beat Kings Palace. Chicago Grey had a lovely pipe opener last month and will appreciate an extra 2furlong more. Dr Newland to me looks like he has put in Pineau Du Re in as top weight to give Masterofdeception a nice racing weight and with a good claimer on board. 12.40 - Royal Skies 1.15 - Creepy 1.50 - Chicago Grey (Saver on Sam Winner) 2.30 - Caid Du Berlais (Saver on Kapga De Cerisy) 3.00 - Masterofdeception(NAP) 3.35 - Golden Doyen 4.05 - Bitofapuzzle
I'd have been HUGELY confident on decent ground that Mr Mullin's super little mare Daring Carlotta would be winning that tasty mare's bumper in the finale at Cheltenham but the ground is a big worry. She hasn't come off the bit in 3 bumpers and she must be doing the right things at home for the yard aren't short of bumper horses to send for this! Maybe she's good enough to overcome the ground, she's well above average that's for sure
Woke up with an incredible sense of optimism this morning and it's all pointing me towards Johns Spirit in the PPGC. On a line through Persian Snow I'd have to give him every chance of giving the weight to Present View, Buywise et al and I think he has taken a big step forward from last season. He absolutely mullered them on seasonal debut off 147 and can follow up here. I'll be fishing around for a tasty price this morning. Have to agree with Beefy on Sausalito Sunrise - looked an absolute top-notcher on debut and will have the benefit of experience over Kings Palace. Finally to quote Sir Barney, I expect there will be some long faces in the County if Mr Henderson's Hargam doesn't win today. The presence of Phillip Hobbs Golden Doyen gives me a nice yardstick to my ante post selection for the Triumph, Alan King's Karezak. For those interested, here is the link to Barry Geraghty's excellent blog: http://www.attheraces.com/article.aspx?ref=redirect&hlid=549414&lid=barry geraghty blog
Ericht for me in the PPGC. The posh dipso won't be winning it with top weight Oscar Whisky, that'll probably run well imo but be turned over by a second season chaser near the bottom of the weights. Ericht's come back run behind John's Spirit in October was promising, and he he's on 10lb better terms today.
Backed Present View e/w and The Druids Nephew to win today at Cheltenham. Going to start keep a log of Gary Nutting's ante post selections and see how he gets on this season. Present View is the starting point.
3.15 Punchestown Alpha des Obeaux 2/1. As mentioned in my earlier post this guy should recoup losses today from his debut second over more suitable trip and going. I'm very hopeful this will be a good horse over the season

Just looked at the place market for the first at Uttoxeter and got 15/8 on surging seas has a good shout but I think the place should be a safer bet
oooh, Supreme Arkle returns, but at 15/8 a place, don't think he'd be that daring?!....................
