    Pontefract 16:10 - Mister Manannan

I put this up last week when completing a double at Beverley under a penalty (effectively off 76). Tomorrow he runs under another penalty of 81 (a 6lb penalty but was only upped to 75 after his first victory). Last week he beat Flash City by just under 2 lengths, Flash City has since won off the same mark 67 in pretty taking fashion. Off 81 Mister Manannan is still 6lb below a mark he won off last April also at Beverley. Although his last three wins have been at Beverley he has won at Pontefract and they are very similar courses with a tough uphill finish. Once again I expect Mister Manannan to come from off the pace to land the hat trick. Kevin Scott also takes off a handy 5lb so in reality he is running off the same mark of 76 he won off last week.

    Opened at 7/2

    I fancy a couple tomorrow.
Primarily the one I think we should be on is JONNIE SKULL 5-1 Yarmouth 6:20. He absolutely loves it round Yarmouth and showed signs of coming to hand last time out. He has won off higher than his current mark and no way should he be the price he is!
I also fancy DESIGNATE 8-1 Brighton 2:20. He looked like a nursery winner in waiting in his maidens but was a shade disappointing when tried in that sphere with blinkers on. A tongue tie is employed now so it seems he is not straight forward but at 8's he definitely merits close inspection. Yard is in good nick.
I have included two others in a yankee, MOUNTAIN KINGDOM who I am uber confident will win the 8:20 Yarmouth and SLEEPER 6:40 who will surely bolt up if handling the surface at Kempton.

    4.00 Lingfield - Invoke 11/4

Was just denied by a short head over 7f just left things a little too late . The step up to 1m looks ideal as he has improved with every step up in trip. Is only 3lb higher and looks to be he one to beat

Three for me tomorrow at this point, two well fancied and the final one a little speculative, but first of all, why is Jim Crowley not riding the Beckett horses at Kempton tomorrow? does anyone know anything about this?

    Lingfield
    3.30 Come on Dave 11-8
This horse won very well at Windsor on Monday and never looked like losing at any time from the gates opening, from stall 3 he should be able to break and lead every yard.

    Kempton
    7.40 Arbaab 7-2
This horse could have been let in very lightly off of this mark and we could see big improvement today.

    9.10 Harwoods star 7-1
This horse is still a maiden but has run creditably on a couple of occasions, I feel with Adam Kirby put up this horse may get it's head in front.

320 Brighton probrably not for the faint hearted but Becky Brisban looks to have an exeptional chance on ROYAL TROOPER in what looks like a scrappy affair. The 13/2 looks way to big to ignore

    From racingpost

JIM CROWLEY has quit his job as stable jockey to Ralph Beckett with immediate effect in order to ride as a freelance, bringing to an end one of modern Flat racing's more enduring partnerships.

Crowley, who has been with Beckett nearly five years, honoured commitments for him on Monday, when the trainer spent much of the day informing owners of the situation, and has another ride for him on Tuesday.

The jockey, who rode more than 250 winners over jumps and has had another 900-plus since switching codes in 2006, said: "There certainly hasn't been a falling out, but after five years as stable jockey I've decided to go freelance. I'd like to thank Ralph, the owners and the staff for all their support, and for giving me the opportunity to ride some lovely horses."

Explaining why the decision had come suddenly, and in mid-season, he added: "It's been on my mind for a while and now felt the time to do it, rather than continuing without having my heart in the job, as it should be.

"Ralph has been brilliant to work for. I've enjoyed my time with him and can't thank him enough."

Crowley did not ride a Group 1 winner for Beckett and that was underlined in last year's Oaks, in which he partnered runner-up Secret Gesture while Richard Hughes won the race on the stable's much longer-priced Talent.

He said: "That was just one of those things and I count myself lucky to have partnered two English Classic seconds for the stable [he was second on Talent in the St Leger]."

Beckett admits frustration at the timing of Crowley's departure but will not be rushing to replace him.

He said: "The timing's not great and I'm going to have to work with two or three agents to hopefully cover things until the end of the season. We'll be using a number of riders, but we'll be using Jim rarely. We have a lot of horses here and I like to have a stable jockey, but I won't be rushing into anything.

"He's an excellent rider and has done a very good job as stable jockey - of that there's no doubt - but there was no contract and he feels it's time to move on."

Thanks for posting the Crowley - Beckett piece Gazman, much appreciated.

A shame really as I think both are very progressive individuals within their roles. I read between the lines that it has been Crowley's decision and I do hope that there is no ill feeling as this would be a shame. I hope that Jim Crowley will find himself with rides for other top stables now he is available. It has always been my view that he should be picking up rides for all the top stables who do not retain a rider. In my book he is only behind Moore and Hughes in the packing order and occupies a place in which 3 or 4 sit just behind those two.

Yes sad that. I rate Crowley. I also rate Beckett.

I know he was jocked off Talent last week: which I felt bad about as I didn't see that he'd done anything wrong there. It was ironic that the horse that beat Talent (into 4th) was ridden by Crowley. As regards the owners of Talent, although I believe one is one of nature's great pessimists I'd hope it wasn't him, and just guess it must have been Rowsell. The jocking off of a stable jockey is difficult to get over and invariably leads to a split. I remember Greville getting jocked off Cecil's for Lester and that sealed their partnership, but there have been many, many more. I suppose Fortune off Gosden's Raven Pass was the last one.

Yes it's always the start of the end, I believe the trainer if committed to his jockey should insist on his judgement in stable jockey being backed by the owner, even if it means the owner taking his horse away. If the jockey forgoes outside rides he could get on better horses at times and backs the stable then he should be backed. once the trainer does not back the jockey, he should walk which it looks like has happened. We could obviously have this wrong and it could not be related to Talent but it does look ominous. If this is the state of affairs however then full marks to Jim for showing integrity. I have a feeling he will likely be in demand and may find himself a big race winner or two soon.

May be wide of the mark. Something usually smoulders before it burns into flames.
I notice Stoute has been using Crowley, if unsuccessfully. With Moore so busy may he come in for more rides there? Will he ride Angel Vision Friday night?
Beckett, it seems, didn't want it. Who will be in line for a stable jockey job?
