I think one of Pipes other runners over at Sedgefield could make the long journey pay off in the 4.35, Decoy. Singles and a double. Also fancy McCain/Maguire double with Sacred Square and Mr Burgess both at Sedgefield.
I am thinking a good day for Favourites at Sedgefield, might try and find the best 5 for trebles, fourfolds and an acca.
Very, very interesting Novices Handicap Chase 3:40 at Chepstow today. As already mentioned by Mick above, McCoy has just 1 ride at the meeting, David Pipe's dual chase winner Barton Stacey, who is vying for favouritism with Grade 2 Hurdle winner Creepy. Just behind them in the betting is top-weight Carole's Destrier for the red-hot Mulholland yard (5 winners from their last 7 runners). Also of interest is the ex-Donald McCain inmate Hollow Tree, a Grade 1 winning hurdler at this course 3 years ago and now with Ian Williams.
Creepy is one of my favourite NH horses in training, and I think he will take to fences, however today's race is very interesting and I do think that Hollow Tree could be very well handicapped. A race to watch and learn from for the season ahead. How about yesterdays Novice Chase winner being a sort for the Grand Annual?
Thought they might have their sights set a little higher Nass? Given his hurdles rating they'd want to be looking at the Arkle?
I can't see it being the sort to get to the best in the division, he is a tier below that, so if they want to win at the festival surely the handicap route would be best? Also didn't Savello win off a similar mark to the mark CM has over hurdles?
Would be interested to hear a quick resume of Court Minstrel's debut over fences yesterday. Didn't see it unfortunately. Looking on yesterday's thread someone alluded to a mistake at the last. Jumping Ok apart from that? Jinky up at Ayr for me today and a watching brief on the Novice Chase at Chepstow Good luck all
Beef stew and dumplings. 8/10. This time last year I was convinced that I’d seen the winner of the ‘Grand Annual’ after watching him win a Newton Abbot novice chase in July ’13. Cor blimey here’s a bit of history repeating itself. Said steed made it to the Cheltenham line up, by the way, but finished 12th! Court Minstrel as low as 20’s for the Arkle which does look very stingy indeed at this stage. Surely, it will be the old boy handicapper who decides if he will run in the 'Grand Annual'.
Travelled very easily Chan and jumped really nicely apart from the last fence, where he seemed to be in 2 minds whether to go for a big one or get in tight. Possibly didn't get strong enough guidance from the saddle? He just basically fiddled over it, didn't really look like falling, just a novicey error. You can see the replay on Sporting Life
Western Warhorse was only rated 125 over hurdles I thought it was a decent performance giving that weight to a smart young horse like Keltus. Time will tell us what the form is worth but I think there were enough positives to take out of the race to encourage them to aim for the top. Meanwhile, Son Du Berlais could be heading to the Persian War Novices Hurdle - no doubt attempting to land a decent pot whilst he is still eligible for novice races. Not sure where they might go afterwards, depends what the handicapper decided to alot him.
Unexposed over hurdles though!! Only 4 runs wasn't it? It was a decent looking performance yesterday I think, but its tough to say how good a performance given the small field. I would be very surprised if he was an Arkle horse, he just doesn't have that profile for me, either as one made for chasing or as a top notch hurdler going chasing.
put coupon on for the champions league in shop earlier for the first time in ages, 6 points shorter than online disgraceful
I wouldn't be in a rush to back him either, just think they should aim him high and see where it takes them. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I see Tarvini has just won again for Jonjo, that's 11 wins in 54 career starts but McCoy hardly ever rides him (just 6 times in 51 starts for Jonjo) and has never won on him. Jonjo seems to keep him back for apprentices - maybe because he is a difficult ride, teaches them plenty?
