opened this thread because I am at a loss as to how Christmas and Covid can work. on another thread [somewhere] I posted about family connections to the virus. I highlighted immediate family AND 1 contact away [ family [ies] when in total 51 were infected in what was 17 groups [ families ] and 1 workplace [ had 9 total but didn't follow any of these families contacts other than 2 which were family] My son in law and grandson were positive daughter and 2 grand daughters were clear! back to Bedminster down for week and granddaughter had sore throat Friday had test last night as was getting bad and positive [ quick result test available ] daughter and other grand daughter negative! house told to isolate 14 days! including son in law and grandson! 14 days take us to 21 st December …. SHOULD either of the other 2 go positive in the next 4 /5 days isolation is then 25th DECEMBER so no family Christmas dinner. My wife works in care home and had a "compulsory test " Friday, result 24-48 hours one. does anyone know the truth about COVID -19 WORKS OR IS TRANSMITTED …. because I don't anymore!
At a glance - Christmas rules You can: Form a "bubble" with up to two other households from Dec 23-27. Travel within the UK whichever tier you are in. Hug and mix freely with your bubble at home, outdoors and in places of worship. Host a care home resident if they are under 65. Stay overnight with your bubble for the five days. You can't: Go to pubs, restaurants or hotels with your bubble unless you are in Tier 1 and you are six people or fewer. Switch between bubbles unless you are under 18 and have parents who do not live together. Host care home residents over the age of 65. Form a bubble with anyone who is self-isolating.
yea thanks for that, but how can you mix should anyone in "bubble be positive or been positive previous 14 days" why has GRANDAUGHTER now got it after being in house for 2 weeks isolation with a one week break since... ??? How many may go into Christmas bubble with someone who is about to show signs [ whilst in bubble ] and not get it?. had 25th December been Friday, there would have been a clear week before it [ daughter is going into isolation simply to protect us wife and I for 7 days before 25th ] we would have been in bubble with GD having it! as the song goes " lonely this Christmas!"
I went to Worcester at the weekend with the wife and whilst we were there we went to some pubs/bars. Worcester is Tier 2 - as is Swindon. The 'no drinks without a meal' rule was very strictly enforced everywhere. However, the 'only one household' rule was NOT. In one bar we went to there were dozens of young girls (about 20 years old). They all had plates of food (pizza) but they were hugging and kissing each other - posing for selfies - dancing around - it was totally ignored by the management. We went into another pub and whilst we were there a chap came in and asked what the minimum amount of food he needed to order so he could have a pint. The waiter told him a side portion of onion rings would be enough - so that's exactly what he ordered! Now, it's well known what I think of these rules, but as a 'good citizen' I obey them. I can't see why having a pint without a plate of food makes me a risk of spreading COVID, whereas partying with 20 others is perfectly safe as long as I'm eating (or at least BOUGHT) a pizza............ Anyway, I hope you get Christmas sorted JGF - It's just our household for us this year and quite frankly I'm looking forward to it. If you do get lonely then you can always pop on these boards and start an LJ debate - you'll get loads of company for sure with all the replies!!!!
thanks for the thoughts WIFE says not going in any case now as wants to act to protect her dad on boxing day.. in his 90's, and at home the pub should be closed down! selling onion rings, and fined £10k the other fined £10k. You are right food doesn't stop covid but acts as a filter to stop drunks cavorting like the female group! Wales is learning a lesson! had their fire break, most adhered to it but some groups didn't it is like a forest fire .. extinguish what is obviously visible but the odd patch's of embers continue growing slowly in undergrowth ...then a gust of wind and new fire … [ poor example but seen it when we used to burn off stubble or bracken ]
I was actually just going to post about Wales - it seems like their beer ban isn't working, so maybe popping to the local for a pint isn't a huge cause after all? Covid: Wales only part of UK without falling coronavirus rates - BBC News
They stopped pubs serving ALCOHOL They’re allowed to serve food and soft drinks - but most of them won’t bother opening. Utter rubbish - the virus struggles to live in alcohol so the more you drink the safer you are!!!
Now look fellas - you should all know the facts over here. If you meet people in a pub for some food and a fruit juice you will be safe. On the other hand if you have a pint on the table, you're ****ed.
The idea with food is, that you have to sit down to eat. They are trying to please everyone when Covid (sorry Onefor) does not care. The issue is the general public just think there is a vaccine (not a cure) coming over the hill and think it’s ok now. One of my friends child had it bad the other week, where they considered taking her to hospital. When recovered back out doing shots with their mates. Thinking they’ve had it so it’s over with now and they can do what they like now. in Wales a 2 week break on something that seems to go in three to four week cycles was pointless and has proved to be a waste of time.
No I don't care as all these measures are utter Bollocks, either lockdown completely if it's that bloody dangerous or let it go....The whole thing is madness, what you're allowed to eat and with what drink FFS.....that virus knows ya know and it knows what time, last orders is !!!
USA LET IT GO BRAZIL LET IT GO … HAS KILLED 100,s of thousands . more than declared in Brazil as they get rid f a dead person in hours! California, 40m people !!!! [2/3rds population of uk ] in lockdown as the virus is now really gone viral! OK LET IT RUN but I bet you don't go out have a few pints onefor to test your theory! WIFE'S TEST NEGATIVE … gave me the book you get when going for it … 28 pages!
I did say do one or the other......not tin pot measures..............and I said, if it's as dangerous as you're/they're saying then we could, or should have locked down properly, full on, with the exception of essential services which would have had more impact in eradicating the virus........... If the US & Brazil calculate numbers as we do then I don't believe that either, According to figures up to Dec 3 most areas around the west including Bristol are really quite low but we are still tier 3.....why? NB. Wouldn't bother me going out for a few pints....I'd rather take my chances and have control of my own life, than being dictated to what I can, or can not do with unproven & impractical measures!!
Something I read on a US twitter page, so copied and pasted to show the strange rules we are being asked to comply with!! Me AT GROCERY STORE: Why is there plastic on the payment keypad? Cashier: To protect people from Covid. Me : But isn’t everyone touching the plastic keypad the same way they would the regular keypad? Cashier: No words. Confused look. Me : Why don't you pack the grocery bags anymore? Cashier : Because of Covid 19 to reduce the spread of catching or spreading the virus. Me : But a shelf packer took it out of a box and put on the shelf, a few customers might have picked it up and put back deciding they don't want it, I put it in my cart and then on the conveyer belt, YOU pick it up to scan it.. But putting it in a bag after you scan is risky?? Cashier : No words, confused look. Me AT DRIVE-THRU Server: (Holds a tray out the window with a bag of food for logical friend to grab) Me: Why is my bag of food on a tray? Server: So I don’t touch your food because of Covid. Me: Didn’t the cook touch my food? Didn’t the person wrapping my food touch it and then touch it again when placing it in my bag? Didn’t you touch the bag and put it on the tray? Didn’t you touch the tray? Server: No words. Confused look. Me in SOCIETY Society : If you cough or sneeze, do it in your elbow or sleeve. Also society : Don't shake hands or hug anyone or you will spread the virus.. To greet people, do an elbow tap instead. Me : Elbow tap? Isn't that where you tell people to sneeze or cough? Into their elbow? Now you want people to tap each other with that elbow? Wouldn't it be safer to sneeze into elbow and shake hands like we did before Covid? Me AT RESTAURANT: Hostess: Ok, I can seat you at this table right here (4 feet away), but I will need you to wear a mask to the table. Me: What happens when I get to the table? Hostess: You can take off the mask. Me: Then it is safe over there? Hostess: Yes. Me: Are those fans blowing above the table? Is that the air-conditioning I feel? Is the air circulating in here? Hostess: No words. Confused look. SOCIETY : You are not allowed to stand and drink at the pub. You have to sit down. But at the shopping center, you are not allowed to sit down; all the chairs are roped off.
I personally think everything is a matter of personal choice, all people that want the vaccine should take their turn and have it, I believe in it and am sure it will protect me, my family and all contacts I have from catching this filthy illness, I believe that my actions and those of a simular mind will contribute to the reduction of loss and suffering within months, those amongst that are against the vaccine, fine, let us not make a fuss and create noise, they are perfectly entitled to their own decisions, let them get on with it, we are protected, if they die or suffer the consequences, they were offered the choice, they made it, no disrespect to anybody but bugger them, life moves on. Good luck to all what ever route of life you follow.
Don't forget that the vaccine doesn't protect people spreading the virus it only protects those that have the vaccine. Should we also say bugger the ones that might die or suffer the consequences if there are side effects or a reaction? Bit harsh Wiz........It's just a life choice
Harsh true, lifes choice true, should we all be controlled because a small minority might have a reaction, no, if you choose a certain route then you take the consequences, those of us that choose the other also take our chances, that is life, you are right it's all about the right to choose.
