For once we werenôt perched on the edge of our seats As a tight game was nearing its close, Yesterday there was no need for last minute feats It just never was one of those A brilliant first half set us well on the way Crowned off by the ôGoal of the Yearô, Or at least, if Neil Adams should get his say And a beauty it did sound from here And now that Iôve just seen the goal many times Thereôs no doubt itôs up with the best, Of Fashanuôs fantastic strike it reminds Itôs one for the old treasure chest Who needs fresh attackers especially on loan When we have such a potent force, In midfield, who often prove we shouldnôt groan If goals arenôt forthcoming from ôhorseô Who once again lead the line as only he Can do, causing havoc and fear, All afternoon defenders repeatedly Were pleased just to clear anywhere But just spare a thought for our old boy Shacks Who lost two front teeth for his pains, Unable to help them repel our attacks Was their loss as well as our gains So five points from a week with two games away Seems a good return for the team, And the clean sheet we brought home out of this fray Is a bonus weôve not always seen. Hmmm, this forum is like Portman road on a Saturday afternoon, I suspect once 606 closes, it will be alot more busy. Definatley was one of our best defensive performances of the season. Preston next should be an easy 3 points and a chance to catch Swansea, but they've been putting up a fight of late.
Mr. Marsupial, it could be that Preston (h) may seem a relatively easy game, but I think youôre kidding yourself if you think that any points are easy in this league. In fact, of the 4 games to play in March, I feel much more confident about Leicester and Hull away, than I do about the two home games against Preston and Bristol C, purely and simply because they look as if they should be straightforward. Itôs not just something peculiar to us, itôs a general football thing, that easy looking games at home tend to go wrong more often than tough looking games away. I think thatôs even more the case with us this year, down to the fact that PL has got us playing, and thinking so attack minded, which gives us great chances away, but tends to leave us a bit vunerable at times at home. I donôt think itôs any coincidence that we have such a good away record this season. Iôd happily take 8 points from March, if they were offered now.
But, whenever we play badly in the first half, Lambert always gives the players a rocket and they come out strongly in the second half, the only time that hasn't been enough was vs Burnley. Preston haven't won a game in 2011 I don't think, and I don't see that changing Saturday. Will be interesting to see if Lambert goes for 4-2-3-1 again, I think last game was one of our best performances all season, especially defensively.
I agree with you about the formation, and I think we could easily use it at home as well as away, and Iôm sure the performance wasnôt lost on Lambert either, so letôs carry on with it, but never underestimate a side that are, on paper, struggling for form. They have had a couple of very good draws lately against QPR, and, was it Cardiff, so fingers crossed they wonôt pick up one more.
I've heard rumours Lambert will be announcing a new striker on loan this week, so maybe we will be going back to 4-1-2-1-2 after all. But then I've also heard rumours we where signing Michael Owen!
