Nothing to be ashamed of losing to Burnley but it is a worrying trend. Teams who win promotion score late goals, they don't concede them especially as regularly as we have
It seems we gave a good account of ourselves, played well, and players like Aluko should be given a run in 1st team. Nothing to be ashamed of, and gives us some impetus for Saturday. And we didnt want an extra 30 mins anyway!
Since October we've conceded so many goals after 90 minutes it is really concerning. As I've said teams who win promotion don't do that. Aluko is an odd one for me some of the things he does could be considered world class, absolutely unbelievable but then the rest of the time he seems to chose completely the wrong option and gives the ball away. My view of him so far in a town shirt from what I have seen is his understanding of space in that 10 position is superb to receive the ball, and he often performs an amazing bit of skill beating 2 players to find space then once he's in space and has the opposition on the back foot he runs towards the biggest mass of opposition players when alot of ours are open and he loses the ball, he does the impossible then mucks up the easy part. I guess if he didn't do that he'd have spent all of his career in the PL. IMO I think we need to see more of Edwards and he deserves his chance. Still don't think McKenna has got the balance of the forward positions right, apart from Chaplin who's scored a great number of goals I don't think anyone has nailed it down and even he sometimes i don't think offers a great deal other than goals from that position, he's almost like a typical goal poacher but playing deeper
He's still a formidable and effective player at this level though. I think if he'd have hit the heights of last season again this season he wouldn't be with us. Feels like bit like when Jon Walters had an exceptional season on the wing but never quite achieved the same levels but was still very effective down that side.
The late goals come across as a complete lack of belief. At the risk of over simplifying the psychology, i suggest we need to have an injury time winner go our way, then McKenna and the players will stop overthinking that final 15 minutes. Aluko is the sort of player I'd love to see used more often from the bench. Run against some tired legs.
And he has all the skills to dribble and hold the ball all over the park to play extra time out if needed. A cry of the codeword around the team of "Fort Knox, give it to Sone", would do the trick!
