Staines is your man for this one Cork a H. I don't know if he is about at the moment as I've only just popped on here myself.

Congratulations to your sister and brother in law.

If she still has her boarding card she should have a sticker on it with a bar code/number which identifies her luggage (given to her at check in). Take this to the lost luggage desk at her final destination airport......Dublin or Cork I guess......they will take details/ description, track it and deliver it to her house. The lost luggage desk is where you pick up bags/ carousel, before customs.
If she has lost the number or left the airport, all is not lost - she should phone the carrier, they should be able to track the bag through her passport and reservation number.
IT IS THEIR JOB TO GET IT BACK TO HER.
Staines is defo your man, but this happens to me frequently, have never lost a bag yet, usually next day delivery to home.
    Good luck.

    Howya lad?

    Been there. Unfortunately.

She should check in with Baggage Claim, leave her name, contact number and her missing bag tag number (stuck on back of her boarding pass or passport). They will then taxi the bag out to her.

One bag I (they!) lost arrived two weeks after I arrived back but more often than not it is next day.

Ditto for me, lost stuff many times, even in Russia, always got it back. Very rare in my experience especially nowadays for it to disappear forever. Paris Charles De Gaulle probably the worst, but it will arrive have no fear.

Barajas, Madrid also a bastard. I swear the baggage handlers there like to test luggage by jumping up and down on it. Many years ago went to Quito, Ecuador via Madrid. Bag didn't turn up in Quito, only one flight a week.....Iberia gave me $70 to buy clothes for a week. A week later I picked the bag up at the airport, checked it back onto the plane it had arrived on and flew back......

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you........the old ones are the best.

That was years ago, complete disaster of a trip - was going to do some walking in the Andes ( no way would I be that active nowadays). Severely jeopardized by Iberia losing my well worn in walking boots and waterproofs, but that didn't matter because you couldn't see the Andes because of low cloud - for the whole time. Was meant to be there 3 weeks, bailed after 1 and spent the other 2 wandering around Spain and Portugal, which turned out great.

That was unlucky mate. It must of been very frustrating to travel so far and not achieve what you set out to do. I would love to go to the west side of South America, Equador, Peru and Chile. It's on my to do list.

Cork, the vast majority of bags lost in airports turn up within 24 hours of being lost and then are sent out by taxi/courier to the home address.

The first question is, what airline/s was she travelling on her journey? The second question is, was it checked thru to her destination airport in Ireland or was she to collect it in Gatwick and re-check it in. If she was flying Ryanair to Dublin or Cork, she would have had to collect the luggage in Gatwick and re-check it in with them. I would imagine somebody coming home from a honeymoon is unlikely to be travellig Ryanair. If it was Aer Lingus, it would probably have been checked thru to the final airport.

Aer Lingus lost a bag on me for 10 days once. In the event that the bag doesn't turn up, you are entitled to compensation for each day that the bag is lost to cover emergency costs for clothing and toiletries. I also wrote a nasty letter and received more money as the bag was destroyed and they paid me a lump sum for the inconvenience of it all. There are standard rules and regulations laid down for all airlines to cover lost bags. Make sure your Sister knows what she is entitled to. The airline or baggage handling agents should be able to supply her with a list of her entitlements. If the bag contained expensive cameras and equipment, your Sister might be better off claiming on her travel insurance as the airlines don't pay for the contents of your bag.

    I hope this helps.

Alright mate, PM me you sisters Lost baggage reference number and I will look into it this afternoon. It will be 5 letters ( 3 letter airport code and 2 letter airline code then 5 numbers) if she can't find that then let me have the tag number.
I'm in at 3pm today and will gladly investigate for her. Tell her not to worry, she will get it back :)

    How many bags are lost? The report states;

    - 25 million items of luggage misplaced globally each year, or one bag per 100 passengers

    When do bags go missing?

    - Transfer baggage mishandling (52 per cent)

    - Failure to load (16 per cent)

    - Passenger bag switch/security/ticketing error (13 per cent)

    - Loading/offloading (7 per cent)

    - Airport/customs/weather/space-weight restriction (6 per cent)

    - Arrival station mishandling (3 per cent)

    - Tagging errors (3 per cent)

One per 100 passengers is equivilent to several per plane load.

No worries mate, just got in to work and was gonna PM you for the details. Glad she has got it back.
    My tips for travel are
1/ Always put a sheet of paper INSIDE your bag giving name/phone number/flight details 'cos if you do we will always phone you to find out where you are and get the case back to you
2/If travelling from the States never lock your bag 'cos the TSA (American Security Dept) will, a lot of the time, break it open to have a look inside. If you really want to lock it use a TSA approved lock
3/ Never think you are being smart by putting a red/green/blue ribbon on your case to make it more dinstinctive 'cos EVERYONE tells us they have put on a red/green/blue ribbon and it definately doesnt make it more distinctive.

    And lastly.....
4/ALWAYS be nice and courteous to your Baggage Tracing agent as it's not their fault and it's he/she who will be doing their best to find your bag. Calling them useless c**** usually means your bag will be lost for a longer time than necessary :)

As always gentlemen.....If been a pleasure having you on board this flight..and i hope you will fly with us again...:)
