Bristol City manager: 'We want to make history' Bristol City manager Lee Johnson and his players have declared that they want to become history makers. City have the chance to progress beyond the 3rd round of the League Cup this evening for the first time since 1989. That year the club made it all the way to the semi-final, where they lost out to eventual winners Nottingham Forest, but City have struggled to make an impression in the competition ever since. This evening's tie against Championship rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage represents a real opportunity for the current generation and their young manager to draw a new line in the sand. And manager Johnson says he and his team have already inspired by achieving a best ever start to the Championship season, and pulling in a record club crowd for the visit of Newcastle United a few weeks ago. Johnson admits that he wasn't immediately excited at being drawn against Fulham - with more glamorous Premier League opposition in the hat. He described his initial reaction as "meh" but now views it as a chance to put a rare cup together for the supporters and emulate the excitement that built around the JPT triumph of the season before last. Despite Johnson's desire to set the League Cup record straight, he's going to make several changes to his lineup to give peripheral squad players some much needed game time. Summer signing Taylor Moore will be among those and will be handed his club debut. I hope we win - like I always do, but I'd take a 10-0 defeat tonight for a 1-0 victory on Saturday if the gods offers that as a trade.
