One negative - I'm a bit pissed off we didn't keep the clean sheet, not just for FPL but because of GD. We made a few too many changes and as soon as we started to make subs, Fulham started to come back in the game. With the quality of our defence and Fulham being without Mitro and down to 10 men it was disappointed to concede, but at least it highlighted how **** Lewis is. Other than that, I'm happy. We bossed the game and we ended our poor run of games in terms of our scoring capabilities. They were down to 10 men but we still had to get the job done, and 4-1 flattered Fulham, could have easily been 6-7. Ratings - Pope - 6 - Not much to do, couldn't really do much about the goal. Trippier - 8 - Lethal balls in all game. Schar - 7 Botman - 8 - Good assist, composure and defending. Burn - 7 Willock - 7 Bruno - 8 - Great assist, good all round play. Longstaff - 8 Almiron - 9 - MOTM - Great game, unlucky not to bag a hattrick. Wilson - 7.5 Murphy - 8 - His best game for a while. Anderson - 6 - Decent runs/dribbling All the others - Not much to write home about
To be fair I hate to say it but he probably did deserve an 8/10. It was probably his best game for us. But he is being greedy trying to get that goal.
Agree. Bring in a top quality player and he makes all the difference. Hard to think of another player who, in their position, is a better buy than Bruno in the last 25 years.
I assume you just mean in terms of Newcastle buys, not more generally. He's certainly had a huge impact. I can't think of other Toon players since Shearer days to have such an instant impact.
I rate Bruno as one of the potentially best players this club has ever had - he's certainly in a small group of brilliant players. Agree that the substitutions probably were the difference that got them a goal. Perhaps worth the gamble in keeping our first team safe from injuries. It might be a hard thing to say but IMO the sooner we move on Lascelles the better.
In recent times, only Shearer and Rob Lee come to mind as other players who would lift the whole team with their presence.
Thought Willock was very good on Saturday and Botman, both deserve special mentions. both with assists that were unlucky not to be goals. Wilson stole Willocks on the line and Botman with a great header and just finger tipped on to the post. Miggy is the next to be "Howe'd" already one goal off his best ever season for us and we are 8 games in and he could have had a few more on Saturday. Confidence will be sky high now and hopefully he can kick on and have a really decent season. The red card was very helpful and made it an easy day at the office for us. Did anyone else get the feeling they were considering the Mbabu challenge a few mins earlier on Willock when he went jumping in for a ball, no way near it, and landed on Willocks ankle - personally thought that was more reckless, out of control and endangering an opponent than Chalobah's challenge in all honesty but he got away scott free so think they may have been correcting that one - no doubt about it Chalobah's was a bad tackle but personally thought it's a late challenge you see every week, studs were showing but was it a clear and obvious error to "only" show him a yellow? Think once Isak and ASM are back we can really kick on plus having some decent options off the bench will be a huge benefit. Then there's only another 6 games after Brentford before the January Window, if we can put 10-15 points on the board before the world cup we could push hard for that 7th place with the right additions in Jan. Some huge games coming up starting with Brentford, 3 points there and we are flying.
