I haven't really been looking at the Herald and other sources of Argyle information just lately so thought I would have a little rummage around and see what was what and catch up a bit. well to be honest I couldn't find anything to be that unhappy about with things coming out of Home Park or rather people going in. After this Spring/Summer of despair, things are definately beginning to look up and for some reason I am beginning to feel quite optimistic about this coming season. Some of the players so far that Reid has brought here look quite reasonable and a lot better than perhaps a lot of us expected. If they gel, and I realise that it is always a big IF, I can't see us struggling at least in the coming season. All it needs now is for a reasonable turn out from the stalwart green army and a reasonable turn out from the fickle side and by next season I see no reason why we cannot return at least one league.
I saw something in todays Herald that seriously upset me but it wasn't Argyle related and I agree things are looking up but you are right sensible the fans must play their part.
With the current squad we have now i would be happy/suprised with mid table especially considering nelson and mason are linked with moves away and unless the new board are willing to spend on the squad i wouldnt expect too much either.
I only ever read the sports pages in the Herald to be honest. It wasn't another story about a cat was it? Back on topic though, the Argyles news stories are actually ALL pretty positive and I couldn't find anything to cause me any sleepless nights at all.
argyle12345 please don't pee on my happy parade with negativity. We haven't got a squad as such just yet so the time for expecting nothing is when it is confirmed we have got nothing. My point is that the calibre of players coming here so far is quite encouraging. There will be more of course and not all of them are going to turn out to be diamonds I'm sure but at the moment they look ok to me.
Oh dear some people just never learn do they? What was being said this time last year Sensible? We should be expecting a mid-table season in the main, with definite aims of finishing in the play-offs etc etc. Even without the minus 10 points Argyle would have finished in the basement end of League 1. Argyle is a million times worse off than this time last year and about to do battle in a highly competitive league. Argyle are going into Npower League 2 not the South Hams Farmers Veterans League. When something is broken Sensible it means it doesn't work. If my TV is bust, putting a new plug on it and moving it from the lounge into the kitchen isn't going to make it suddenly start working. If my cars engine is blown then changing a few tyres and taking it off the tarmaced road and onto a dirt-track isn't going to make it suddenly spring to life again. Love your optimism Sensible but it's based on nothing but blind wishfulness. Argyle is an absolute train-wreck and about to start a competitive season with absolutely nothing in the locker (again), I don't think the current squad training even have enough bodies for a 5 a side game.
Your opinion doesn't count so piss off and answer my question on the other thread that I asked you. You might need a few facts on that one and I know you lack them so it might be difficult but please try.
It's why he does it. Can't stand anything positive written about Argyle so bungs something on just to ruin it. Bet he pulls legs off spiders even to this day. When it comes to being asked something about his looney tunes ravings he just shuts up which sort of proves my point. Bit like that little boy in Toy Story who blows up toys and makes them all seem hideous.
Your post was making me feel so positive Sensible and then DS comes along. And as I have said before DS is never wrong! Doom, Gloom (or the ignore button!).
No dont hide this thread from me! Another attempt to stir up the **** before settling down to arrange his cd collection in alphabetical order, ABBA, Barney sings the hits of Bing Crosby, Christmas with Alvin and the Chipmunks, Dana...... The window licker makes no sense at all. This time 18 months ago he was screaming for more money to be spent for **** sake, and every player we had was useless. When it emerged we were in real financial ****, he went mad because we were selling all these world class players! Make your mind up ******. And now the way forward is for fans to boycott games, when we're in a league with a wage cap linked to your income from attendances! Now if you would kindly explain which one of your many wildly varying theories we are supposed to take on board this week, us mere mortals might be able to see the error of our ways and bow down and pray at your feet DS. Yeah I miss his posts too Argyle 12345, they give me a purpose in life. Now I know I can't stand the prick so I am a tad biased, but can anyone, and I mean anyone at all explain how boycotting games is going to help us in this League? With a ****ing wage cap linked to income DS, explain that one to the readers. And if you can't explain it again DS then the deal is you **** Off and die ok?
Ds - you are right about your tv and car when they are broken but by the same token you don't stay away from it and just moan to everyone about it. You have to spend money to fix it or buy a new one. Same applies here as now if you love argyle you will spend some money, support it and fix it. It doesn't mend itself while you sit in the pub moaning about it. DOUGHNUT !!!!
I think a comfortable higher mid-table finish is likely. I think considering the last two seasons of woe that this would be a much celebrated outcome. It will be nice for us not to be in the relegation fight. Pushing for promotion in 2013 I feel. COYG!
Positive spin notwithstanding, we have enough to be cheerful about in the short term in that the club seems to have survived a deep life threatening crisis by the skin of its teeth. Sir Peter's proved himself to be a man to trust in such a crisis and we have no option but to give Ridsdale a chance. There's a tremendous challenge in getting a brand new squad assembled on the cheap and late in the day up & running successfully and undue optimism now is only going to lead to disenchantment later. Personally, I'll settle now for a season untroubled by relegation worries. The rest can come later.
Conflicting theories??? Me???? There is nobody in the history of 606 who has been more steadfast in their views. Taking quotes out of various different times and using them in a different context does not make me conflicting in my theories. Let me explain. 1. Arglye were a successful, solvent club in the top end of the Championship. I was happy. 2. Argyle lost their manager and sold all their best players in a sudden firesale but generated 7-10 million pounds in transfer fees. I was outraged but demanded the money was immediately ploughed back into adequate and equal replacements. 3. The club bought cheap donkeys, cheap donkeys and more cheap donkeys. When the cheap donkeys failed they bought more cheap donkeys. I was turned to the darkside and have been on the clubs case ever since. The total failure to provide adequate replacements following the great firesale of 2008 is the primary reason we are where we are now. I SCREAMED AT THE CLUB TO SPEND LOADS OF MONEY BUT ON A FEW DECENT REPLACEMENT PLAYERS NOT SEVERAL DOZEN USELESS CHEAP DONKEYS. For crying out loud are you all thick?? I wanted the club to spend big but spend smart. What they did is spend big but stupid, and I have been pointing this out for years. You now try to state that I was the one calling out for the club to waste millions of pounds on dozens of cheap flops. NO NO NO I was the one calling out for the club to spend millions of pounds on proper, decent, proven players to replace the proper, decent, proven players we'd just sold. I was then the one who was screaming out that buying dozens of cheap flops was going to kill us whilst all you lot still sat happy-clapping and dreaming of play-offs!! Greenjock you dare to accuse me of changing my tune? you cheeky little monkey, I've never deviated for a second unlike certain other fickle turncoats around here who jump from camp to camp like a Kanagaroo on speed.
I think you're right, sensible. I do feel that there is the prospect of a winning season ahead - by which i mean we will win more games at Home Park than we lose. League 2 is kept very competitive by the wage cap. Nobody can pretend to be a 'big club' and buy their way out but we should have one of the higher attendances in the division. It's up to Peter Reid now to rebuild a team with a winning mentality. One possible good reason for dumping the previous squad was that they had all become too used to losing. And Jock, use the ignore facility. If nobody ever replies to the plank, maybe he'll make good on his promise to **** off for good.
Do it, press that ignore button, it's just so satisfying. I asked him a question on another thread regarding the stay away theory etc asking him for some facts to support his claim. As usual he has abstained from response. This is because there is no substance to his theories and he cannot support his argument with anything tangible Resort to "you are idiots" and of course that in his world is point proved. We all know the "spend more money" posts and we all know the "oh god where has all the money gone" posts when they did the first. Says he doesn't change tack but again that is by forgetting conveniently whichever of the stances doesn't suit the argument of the day. He is consistant. Consistantly changing his mind every 5 minutes. I really really really don't care what the doom people say, things are absolutely and definately looking up at Home Park. If things continue in this vein then I will be more than happy this season.
