A somewhat generous assessment of the responses if I may say so Superman. He did seem a decent youngster a few years back but that might have been because the rest of the youngsters he was with at that time turned out to be fairly average. On top of that he went off the rails - if he can cause chaos in Beccles and Wymondham what would happen to him in South London - and all in all I think his level is Div 1 with possibly a chance in an average Championship side if he buckled down. Sell him for what we can get in my opinion and the same applies to the current crop of so called ' youngsters' Adeyemi, Korey-Smith and Francombe.
I agreed with the article in the sense that he does do a lot of good work that gets unnoticed by a lot of untrained eyes... however... the facts are that he has scored 12 goals in 62 games over the last two seasons. That's not exactly setting the world on fire!
Strikers like him and Wilbraham quite often get negative views just because of their goalscoring records. While they are strikers they tend to set up more than they score which people often ignore. Its hard to tell how good they are unless you watch their all round game regularly. Having said this I don't think he is that good. Lower championship striker really. If was to improve his attitude and work ethic combined with his undoubted talent he could be a very good player. Probably not for us any more though
Chris Martin is such a hard one to call. I've always rated him and I think he's just a little bit off a really good player, not even his temprament, I think that makes him stronger. I could see another loan deal next year, unless an offer comes in to turn Lambert/Mcnallys head. I'd be sad to see him go.
The trouble with Chrissy is that he doesn't really fall into any kind of traditional front man bracket. Is he an out and out goalscoring machine? No. Not at Championship or Premier League level yet. Is he a target man? No. Despite beefing up a little he does not scare big tough Championship level defenders with his aerial threat. Is he a tireless work horse? No. I actually think he cleverly uses his bursts of energy effectively but he can come across to many as being lazy. Is he blessed with lightning pace? No. He is never going to threaten in behind a defense. Has he got a good footballing brain? Yes. You cannot deny that he is clever, tricky and can spot an intricate pass. So in summary he has bits of all the above with his main asset being his clever footballing brain but then on top of all this there's his temperament - if under control on and off the pitch that's fine but how do you know what he is like day to day on the training pitch but more importantly when temptations come his way in his own free time. So much has been reproted about his antics in the past has he matured or will a leopard ever change its spots? My guess is that Lambert has made up his mind already!
I think his ability should be putting him ahead of Morison perhaps his closest rival. But its always just under the surface with an occasional eruption. I would hate for us to sell him and somebody else gets the benefit of the real Chris Martin.
as far as i'm concerned, martin will never be more than a championship striker, so for that reason, he should leave
