Just came across this. One gets the impression that Damien Duff single-handedly got Shelbourne to Europe. His only reference to Hull is "chaos" and zero mention that it was Acun that gave him the money to keep his goal keeper, no mention that it was the Hull Academy lads (provided and funded by Acun) were the major footballers in achieving European football, no mention that Acun left without taking his investment back with him. It's all about Damien and his local cronies. Very disappointing. https://www.msn.com/en-ie/sports/fo...amien-duff-on-shelbourne-s-season/ar-AA1lHnlT
To be fair, I was only saying to the lads the other night that I rate it higher that shamrock rovers four in a row.
The guy seems to be the motor mouth that keeps on giving to the local sports journalists... and yes, like journalists everywhere, they will have their schadenfreude moment with him when he cannot acquire/afford the type of players he was gifted followed by the then inevitable run of results...an indifferent domestic season plus a European adventure consisting of a nil all draw at home and a 2 nil away defeat to Valletta or Grindavik.
“The lads coming in from England have big boots to fill.” Sounds like a compliment to Will and Harry to me. I think they should go permanently, get their careers started, they’re not getting in here.
Comments from Shelbourne fans responding to a query on what they thought of Acun/Hull involvement with their club.
Does it really matter what Duff said and for that matter wtf Sherbourne are doing now ? We have ZERO connection with them now, done, finito bonito, Nada, we move on, let us not have this dark shadow cast over us again. TA !
Nothing to do with Shelbourne. These last few posts are to do with Acun and his relationship with football clubs. This particular club, according to its fans, snookered the owner, the owner also being the owner of our club. That is what is interesting. Fan power trumps owner (or that is what they seem to be saying). Could a similar situation occur here and would Acun also walk if the fans were not happy with him? Would he walk away quicktime or would it be a long protracted Allamesque bitter rankle? Is he vulnerable to a sudden loss of popularity and would he walk as swiftly as he did from this example?
He's got a lot more money invested in city, whereas the planned 3m investment programme in shels to give Acun the 60% holding never fully materialised. Its a different proposition entirely for him to be walking away from city.
Duff is just full of his own importance, it will be interesting to see now how things go now, often managers/coaches like this end up with egg on their face.
