Rumour has it Southampton have made an inquiry for matt jarvis! What a signing that would be for them, sort of player I would like us to be going for this window.
We shouldn't hang around either to be fair. QPR might steal all the lower league young talented British players. ...oh
Personally would love to see Hoilett, but probably destined for someone like Newcastle or Spurs. I remember a few years ago people were saying Dann and Johnson should be England defenders. Christ, two relegations on the trot, looks like that anyway. Out of Wolves and Blackburn I would want Hoilett, Olsson or Fletcher. Probably all out of are reach because they are on Prem wages. I think Southampton will pick up some coups this summer.
How comfortable are Southampton financially? I remember they went into admin when we were in League One but there is something about them that tells me they're a lot better off then we think.
They are alot better off than us, thats for sure A club that comes up from league 1 and offers £5mil for a striker sure tells me that any way!
Even when they were apparently skint in League One they were buying players. The sign of being really hard up is was during those dark days when we were getting tons of loans, also a massive sign of financial mis management too with millions being wasted.
I know they were owned by some rich business man but he passed away a year or 2 ago. I'm not aure what happened after finance wise but they seem to be able stupid fees for a championship club so I don't think too much would have changed!
From what I have read, now the owner has passed, I don't think they are going to be bankrolled and are aiming to be self sustainable in the future as they have a great academy Sure they will get some cash from the estate of the owner, but unlike us I don't think they have any debt
saints have enormous financial clout but they are being run in a similar way to ourselves, which is pleasing baring in mind they were in administration two years ago. if they wanted to they could spend £100m this summer but they won't. i expect they'll spend between £10-15m in total on five or six players.
Markus Liebherr bought them once they went into administration and spend quite big bringing in Rickie Lambert, Lee Barnard, Dean Hammond etc. I just read via wiki Alan Pardew spend £3 million on players the season we won League 1. Massive amount for a League 1 side.
supers, i'd be surprised if they were able to spend £100M, as this would mean the owners would have to pump in a shed load of cash, from what they were reporting (obviously this is the information we have) on the local news here. The money Liebherr put in was converted from loans to equity as well. You'd have thought because he has passed away, the family would be unsure whether to put more in. also, knowing quite a lot of Saints fans, I very much doubt they would be happy doing a QPR
I also think Nigel Adkins will never do a QPR, I think the tough thing about next season is us and Swansea have set an example of how to survive in the Prem without bringing in has beens who have had a good season in the Prem at some point in their career. If QPR go down they will be in trouble, the wages Cisse, Zamora, Anton Ferdinand, Barton, Wright-Phillips will be on is probably quite frightening. I think Reading and Southampton will be pretty tricky, I think that's why we need to spend well this summer and sharpen the defence up.
Yellow little, i agree about Saints (being tricky). I'm not so sure about Reading. Being my local team, i keep a good eye on them (and also trying to persuade my eldest son to not support them and continue to support Norwich!) They have a great manager, but their squad isn't that impressive, they are defensively strong though and play as a unit. In fact it's quite similar to our situation last year. It'll be very interesting to see what happens with their new owners and what cash they give to McDermott. one thing for sure, i think Reading and Saints will be a further breath of fresh air to the Premier League, on top of what us and Swansea have brought this year
