THOUSANDS of Glaswegians have signed up to an apparent 'Facebook scam' advertising a summer safari waterpark in the city - but the council have received no application for the event. Over 27,000 people have expressed their interest in attending the event on the social media website which is allegedly due to take place on August 13. A series of events in cities across the UK including Glasgow have been set up but it is feared to be a scam created to harvest users data after they register their interest. Despite attracting thousands of likes, the event contains very few details other than a water park will be set up in the city featuring flumes, rapids, water rides and slides and a mini beach. The event organisers also claim that they are waiting on permission from the council. Facebook users have also been encouraged to join private online groups for further information about the event in their area. The Evening Times attempted to contact Safari Water Adventure Tour UK, who are behind the event but have had no response. A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “We’re not aware of any contact with the council regarding this event - and it seems extremely unlikely that it would even be possible to transport, build and dismantle the kind of attractions pictured in a different town every couple of days. “Unfortunately, similar Facebook events have previously been used to try and obtain personal information from anyone signing up.” Online forums have warned internet users about the scam. Although the events have not requested any more information, Facebook users are being urged not to divulge any private information.
That reminds me of when the POOVES first battered the LYT at the Glasgow Garden Festival and then the LYT all got a refund from the ghost train because of their battered coupons.
