That is including Bales increase. Still can't believe we didn't make an offer for Bale in the summer. We are close to his mum's house so that must of been an incentive <laugh>

Sickening amounts of money being spent on some quite mediocre players from that list, with some notable exceptions.

Who, still aren't worth those obscene sums I might add.

Trouble is the players get the blame for it but who is the blame with? I think if someone is willing to pay you that much you would be stupid to turn it down.
There are two of the top three (Ronaldo and Bale) , you could say plus Ibrahimovic and Neymar that are very passionate for their respected national teams so that puts a slightly different slant on the arguement regarding players happy taking their salaries and to hell with the national teams.

No blame can be put on the players for sure. Would you turn it down?!

Companies such as Sky are largely to blame for it, plus English, and Spanish football is sold around the world, it's no longer confined to being a respective national sport. Sky have too much power and since they started dictating kick off times it's got worse.

It's probably only a matter of time before we see the FA Cup Final being held in Addis Ababa or somewhere equally ridiculous.

But we will still be grateful for the match fee from Saturday, Sky, sir, so please disregard our comments here :)

That list on its own is a lot of money going out of the game.... no French German or Italian teams in that top 10
its probably safe to say that each weekend of premiership players on the pitch is close to £2bn & on the bench close to £1bn per annum in wages!
had I put every penny I earned away and not spent anything for the 50 years I had worked I could still not be a millionaire ......

It is sickening really and indirectly we are paying twice for it.........

But it's only happening because of the developments of the last 25 years or so and the huge selloff of TV rights. At first I enjoyed seeing extra games, and was even interested in the Premier League, but it very soon reached saturation point and beyond and with it my interest evaporated.

Would any of us older ones on here ever have imagined the concept of a team being relegated from the top division and being rewarded with £100m for their failure ? It's just madness.

Better the premier league is in this country than Germany, France or Italy. Think of the tax revenue from Income Tax, NI, VAT and company profits of sky. I know they will all try and reduce their tax bill but have you ever wondered why it is always the HMRC (tax collectors) who issue winding up orders and are owed millions. If Wayne Rooney only pays 20% of his wages in tax (allowing for tax reductions "schemes") he will pay £2.7m - that means he pays for the local primary school.

No-one likes paying tax, but those on stupid amounts of mega bucks deserve to pay huge amounts so that NHS Hospitals can pay their administrators £200k a year rather than spending it on patient care etc etc.

I think Ronaldo donates a lot to charities especially children ones. Don't know about the others I suspect Rooney does help the aged <whistle>

Don't be silly Angelic, I'm probably older than you (although believe me, it gives me little satisfaction)

Personally i have little time for people who resent the good fortune (or well won spoils) of another. I find it negative, pathetic and demeaning.
If someone wins the lottery - good on ya, but enjoy it and don't let it destroy you
If someone hits the jackpot at work - ride it cowboy and roll home on the ripples
If someone has something that hasn't been granted to me - I raise a glass to you son and I celebrate it

Footballers have a short shelf life, and those in the Championship won't have long to set themselves up for the difficult life that follows their short and often frustrating career
But then I have been a career musician for much of my life so I can identify with such

In football individuals are helped by clubs and football collectively to attain wealth.

Personally I would like to see a larger % of the wealth of the EPL dedicated to providing more opportunity for kids to play the game and coaching.

In Bristol there is a danger that yet more facilities for kids will be lost in the near future.

Obscene money, however the revenue the prem and championship put into the economy is massive.

What I'm saying is the wages that the top 10 (and many others get) is disproportionate to their ability, and wall to wall TV coverage that is funding this excess has had a hugely negative affect on my enjoyment of Premiership and International football.
