..with other results going against us today. But its not May yet and we are in a better position than we were 3 months ago. Before the last 2 games i would have taken 2 draws so a win and loss is acceptable imo. McGoldrick didn't do alot today so i hear, but he has been playing well recently rather than bring any new players in i think its time we worked with the players we have Mick has proven he can get the best out of players so i remain confident we will survive and push on next season. A 1-0 loss to a good Blackburn side does not mean we are doomed.
That really wasn't a good Blackburn side Weighty, we didnt get a proper shot away until the 85th minute and our best prospect of scoring was our CDM. We've lost all that ground on the bottom three now, it really isn't looking good because our striking options are horrific.
and it's heartbreaking for the other 9 players who gave 100% today and had their heads down after the final whistle.
Well they have two strikers that we all know are half decent. we may have lacked in front of goal today but we scored a few last week so forgive me if i don't right them off just yet, a few months ago we would have been spanked so i think we have moved forward as the defence is looking more solid.
We've definitely moved forward but we have to accept that we may have to move forward from League One because our hands are tied till the summer now. Looking upwards a couple of wins and we'd be top half so anyone could get dragged into that relegation zone.
The other teams toward the bottom have strengthened and improved since Christmas and we've won once. As I said last week, winning by a big margin means sod all if you lose the following week. But performance-wise it was a team I was proud to be behind today. Better organised, great passing and movement, just impotent up front.
3 games left this month...I think we need to be looking to get 5 or 6 points from those, otherwise we could find ourselves back in the bottom 3 going into March...!
A win and a loss is better than 2 draws. My point about the 4 goals against middlesborough is that we can score goals i know we didn't today but i think we will. Its good to hear we played ok and competed i'm sure we won't win every game we play but i think we will win enough to stay up, hopefully we can be safe before the end of the season. I think McGoldrick is more or less our player and what i've seen and heard he looks a decent player and Mclean seems like a player that is busy and full of running but maybe not great quality the same as P.Taylor so i don't think we will sign him as Taylor will be back after this season.
Agree SD, as I've stated many times I really don't see the point of the McLean signing. And I do really concern about where our goals will come from as I've said we don't really, although we scored 4 last week as was pointed out on another thread they were all goals from outside the penalty area and, we have absolutely nothing happening in our penalty area. I feel it needs to be changed around, give Nouble a try or even Chopra, we need someone to have that intelligent movement and that prowess in the box for me McLean and McGoldrick just don't have that and it's a real area of concern, particularly as we aren't creating alot either!! It''s good that we are much more solid at the back but we really don't offer alot going forwards and it's goals that are going to get us out of this mess!!
Unless Mick has no plans on getting rid of Chops then I would much rather see Nouble have a run up top to see what he's all about. If he wants to keep Chops then give him a run to help him find some form.
Nouble is about strength, pace, good in the air, good on the ground and an eye for goal. He has just got to be involved.
Just an observation but there is not a lot of action of this site is there? Weighty Crimson and Deleted User taking to each other and only two threads in all today. It isn't great is it?
I have to say that the high that we felt after the Boro game has well and truly worn off. There are going to be good weeks and bad weeks until the end of the season and today was a particularly bad week, particularly the other results which were bound to happen as every team has a bit of a spell of form in this league and we can only hope we haven't already had ours... The Blackpool and Huddersfield matches now take on a different complexion and we have to hope that some of the teams above start to implode as Wolves have been dropping like a stone over the past few weeks...
I was curious about our current situation so I thought I'd find out some stats... Previous points needed for safety: 2011/12 - 41 2010/11 - 43 2009/10 - 48 2008/09 - 47 (Norwich relegated with 46) 2007/08 - 53 2006/09 - 43 We have 35 points now, and 15 games remaining. As the tables very close at the moment, say we need around 50 points for safety then that's 15 points in the next 15 games. Mick's stats so far is 19 games, 28 points (1.47 points per game), the last 15 games is pretty much the same (15 games 22 points, av 1.46 points per game) Sure we should have won a few more games recently, but unless something goes disastrously wrong I can't see us going down.
