Funny, not too long ago our esteemed local radio station was discussing on Sportstalk how interest in football was declining. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...69/Fans-Championship-Sunderland-Juventus.html
It's hard to get tickets for big Juventus games now, so im guessing that their ground has a lower seating capacity than the stadium of light, not that this makes the headline incorrect.
Sunderland's average attendance this season is 1,000 higher than Juventus' capacity, so though accurate, it's misleading.
It isn’t misleading. They got more than Juventus. Juventus average this season is 1,900 short of capacity so they could have had more in. And means getting a ticket is not as hard as some would have us believe.
As Sunderland's average is more than Juventus' capacity, it's physically impossible for Juventus to match Sunderland's average, even if they sold every ticket for every game. They've made a lot of it corporate matchday tickets (3-4,000) and they're not selling those tickets, mainly because they're £140 each.
What does it show then? They’re from a smaller city and getting bigger crowds. The reason that the Juventus stadium is the size it is is because that was what they were getting in their previous municipal stadium which held far more and their fans hated the lack of atmosphere where they were a long way from the pitch and with a running track round the pitch. Juventus are like Man Utd, fans all over the place. A few years ago in a row with the council they moved a home game to Bologna and 46,000 turned up which was more than their previous home game. Their postulating about it being cheaper to play there soon brought the council round.
I never suggested otherwise, I was just agreeing with Heimdallr that it's a bit misleading, as it's not actually possible for Juventus to match Sunderland's attendances.
And to think that some see us getting 20k with reduced tickets and feel that spending a couple of mil here and there entitles us to be a promotion side with a top 6 budget.
Turin’s a poor City now maybe they are suffering more than think . Fiat went to Romania and or Poland a taxi driver told me - mind you he didn’t tip me off about any future City signings !!
Turin is more salubrious than Sunderland and has a population 4 times the size. Not to mention Juventus are Italy’s Man Utd with fans all over the place. So an average less than Sunderland’s is not impressive given their history.
That's your opinion and of course, it counts to you, but I'm not sure you focus on what most see as relevant. Most Juventus fans will be more concerned about their 35+ league titles and numerous other accolades, rather than that Sunderland have more seats in their ground, and most Sunderland fans would give up their higher attendance average this season, to have had the equivalent success. You're comparing a bus with a formula one car.
It’s a little ironic that Fiat are moving all production offshore, considering the full name of Fiat basically translates to Made In Turin. They still make Alfa Romeo and Maserati’s there though.
