City have completed the loan signing of Watford defender Nyron Nosworthy. The 33-year-old centre-half arrives for an initial 30-day period, with the option of extending the loan for the remainder of the 2013/14 campaign. Londoner Nosworthy, a ten-cap Jamaican international, adds extra experience to the squad after Aden Flintâs knee injury and Adam El-Abdâs three-game suspension limited options in the defensive department. âI just felt we were a little short after whatâs happened with Aden and Adam,â manager Steve Cotterill told bcfc.co.uk. âHeâs someone Iâve had in the back of my mind since doing well against us in the FA Cup and weâve built up a good relationship with Watford. âHeâs a good lad and has fitted in well already with the lads in training today. Itâs great weâve been able to get him on board.â Nosworthyâs career began at Gillingham, where he graduated from their youth setup. In 2005 he moved on to Sunderland and two years later he was named their Player of the Season in a promotion campaign. After playing more than 120 games for the Black Cats he spent two separate loan spells at Sheffield United in 2010 and 2011. His next move was to Watford, also on loan, before making a permanent switch in 2012 under Gianfranco Zolaâs management. With opportunities limited at Vicarage Road â his last outing was an FA Cup tie at Ashton Gate against City back in January â Nosworthy is now hoping to bolster Steve Cotterillâs squad and gain regular match action at the same time. Nosworthy has been handed squad number 36 and is available to face Swindon Town at Ashton Gate tomorrow (3pm). Very good signing, well done cotts
Sounds like a fantastic signing, albeit one I've not really heard a lot from. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not. At 33, he'll probably be a great loan signing, and if he's got something to prove he could help turn our defense around. Probably not one we'll want to stick around though, even if he has a good month with us.
Well if he has a good month, we may as well extend until the end of the season. Not sign him next year as he'll be 34 but if he can help our cause this year then great.
A good positive signing, at least Cotterill is taking action and not willing to see us slide down the pan without trying like a certain gentleman did last season. Good for the team and good for us fans.
Where does this loan signing leave Carey and Fonts? I assume SC will only play them as a total last resort and that both are leaving at end of season.
Let's not expect too much as he has not played a competitive game since early January - he made need a couple of games
Don't think there's any doubt about that now. Be interesting to know what Carey's next role will be, either as a player elsewhere, or with us in a coaching type role.
Depends I guess on what Carey wants- Don't know if he has done his coaching badges etc, or what exactly he does do in between games and U21s.- I still think that he has something left to give as a player, but not likely to be with us.-
