Once again for those not living locally and would not have seen the Evening Sentinel I thought I'd share this pic of Sir Stanley Matthews warming his hands on one of the many fire braziers on the old Victoria Ground pitch before the days of undersoil heating. Incidentally the guy on the wheelbarrow is Dougie Brown another Stoke on Trent legend as he was the ex Lord Mayor of Stoke and the founder of the lads n dads football that used to be played on Sunday mornings. Might use this thread to share more old Stoke photos too. I think we need a bit of a boost after today's showing! December 1938 please log in to view this image
Thank you Waddo. Keep the home fires burning eh! Oversoil heating!! look at the state of the pitch, I'd like to see Barcelona play on that on a cold Tuesday night in February!!!
And the ashes of the former manager are laid to rest on the midfield part of the pitch, never to be disturbed again!!!!
And on the subject of Stoke City photos it's good to see the new picture of the Britannia Stadium as the background to this forum. Thanks to whoever changed it yesterday.
Agreed on that one PP - well done whoever. When someone said look on the Stoke board there is a thread about burning bra's - well just how disappointing could a chap get
