As I will be leaving this board next week I thought I would start the final match thread I will be involved in. Norwich City team Rudd; R. Martin (c), R. Bennett, Barnett, Garrido; Surman, Howson, Fox, E. Bennett; Jackson, Kane Subs - Bunn, Whittaker, Turner, Holt, Pilkington, Hoolahan, Tettey Luton team Tyler, Rowe-Turner, Taylor, Kovacs, Lawless, Shaw, Howells, Mendy, Smith, Henry (c), Gray Subs - Brill, Rendell, Fleetwood, Watkins, O'Donnell, Dance, Robinson
Looking forward to seeing Kane and Jackson together for the first time Where's the mandatory bit about hot-dogs and coca cola tankards?
4-4-2 or maybe a diamond then. Either way I expect Howson will have more freedom to attack than Fox. Reasonable looking side, although we can hardly field a weak one! Garrido over Tierney is slightly surprising, is Tierney injured or is this an attempt to get Garrido back in form after a poor game at Liverpool?
Do we think that midfield is a diamond with Fox at the base and Bennett at the tip or just a flat four with Surman and Bennett on the flanks?
I would imagine a flatish 4. But as with most formations these days there is plenty of room for flexibility. Maybe narrower when defending and wider attacking. Will be good to see how it works. While it is a weakened team it is still pretty damn good (touch wood)
I think they'll line up in the diamond. Fox at the base, Howson and Surman in the middle and Bennett at the top. It'll be unlikely that they go a flat 4-4-2 as Fox, Howson and Surman aren't really wide players, Surman especially tends to drift into the middle of the park when he's playing out wide.
Yeah fair point about Surman Dazz, probably be a diamond then. Another chance for Fox to show he can play the DM role then.
Does Fox have to prove himself wonky ? IMO He'd be one of the first on the team sheet. For some reason his face doesn't seem to fit and my fear is that we'll lose him either this window or certainly in the summer. Controversial perhaps, but I rate him higher than Hoolahan. Hoolahan blows hot and cold and loses/gives the ball away far too often
He doesn't have to prove himself to the fans, more so to Hughton. So we gets a start in the Premier League.
Yup - looks like a 4-4-2 from here as well. Nice to see Jacko having someone up front with him and between them they have a fair bit of pace to scare the bollocks off the Luton defenders
I don't think Fox needs to prove himself to a lot of us, but maybe he does to Hughton? I think most of us rate him, and would have him along Tettey or Johnson in midfield, so we've got someone to put their foot on the ball, calm things down and help maintain possession. I'm guessing that Hughton is worried he's not as strong in the tackle as the other 2 names mentioned, so that's what he needs to prove to Hughton.
Lots of performaces need watching today. Fox, Surman, Bennett and the two up front could do with some good days. Clean sheet wouldn't go amiss either.
Well, after being completely anonymous last weekend, I'd be expecting a good performance from Howson, who also looks like he has something to prove to Hughton.
I don't think Fox needs to prove himself to anyone. The fans know what he can do, and I'm pretty sure Hughton does as well. The only reason he isn't playing is because Johnson and Tettey are slightly better in the type of DM role that Hughton likes to use. Like DH said, Johnson and Tettey are a bit stronger in the tackle than Fox. If he decides he wants one of the two DM's to be a ball player Fox will be in the side.
