Yeah I agree if you going to be mid table rather the prem than the championship........but I'd rather be at the top of the championship battling for promotion than fighting relegation in the prem......I think..........
I do understand where your coming from tbh. I'm a realist and know little old QPR will not be finishing in the top four and playing champions league football if in the prem. For the good of the game I was hoping Southampton would finish in the top four to show it can still be done if your not a Man Ciry/Chelsea/Arsenal etc. Football is not like it used to be. Loads argue that Sky and the prem have ruined it all, I won't disagree, not since the late 80's could most clubs have a go at winning what was the 1st division or FA cup. Also my teams Wembley final last year is one of those rare occasions to savor. I still think most fans would prefer their club in the top flight.
Stop trying to convince yourselves you are better of in the Championship. Such a daft argument to make. Travelling to 60,000 seater stadia, beating the big boys, TV coverage, the transfer interest, big signings, the intensity and pressure. No, I'd rather watch my team beating Rotherham at home. Stop talking rot.
Nobody has said we are better 'off' in the championship. Prior to a season kicking off I think everyone wants to be in the premiership, the question the grown ups are discussing is a successful season in the championship better as a fan than a poor season in the prem....tbh I would like a few seasons in the prem to give me more insight........ And yeah I'd rather see us beat Rotherham than lose to Chelsea......
Well so would i but i'd also rather beat Chelsea, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Sunderland than lose to Bolton, Boro, Forest and Fulham. The scenario of choice of who you beat does not work. Thats not how football works. What happens if you get relegated, would you prefer that to losing to Chelsea and staying up on the Prem? If you pick one scenario, you have to pick all the others as well.
It's just a hypothetical discussion during the close season......just because one scenario is mentioned doesn't mean you have to pick all possible others really. Would you rather see 8 prem Wins or 25 championship wins.......
Would I rather see 25 Championship wins playing your way, or 8 Prem wins playing Swanseas way then I'd plump for the latter Would I 25 Championship wins playing Bournemouths way or 8 prem wins playing under Hughton then I'd go for the former. Would you rather watch a dull 1-0 home win against Sheff Wed or an exciting 4-3 defeat to Man Utd away. The result is not the deciding factor on enjoying a game of football, its the context, event, tension, story and potential for victory that really decides your enjoyment. Those that rely solely on the result are berift of imagination and soul. Why not just support an amateur team that wins every game 5-0? You were not really discussing it, just trying to justify it by putting it simply.
Unless we have a season long push for the automatics the excitement wont be the same this season. We we're the plucky "£10k" underdogs last season; this season play-offs will be the minimum expected. The cheer at losing at Blackburn to confirm play-offs will never be replicated if we do the same thing at Derby next May. It's not just the game, but the context of the season that brings the tension and excitement. The first season in the prem for us -when it eventually comes around - after over a decade away from the top table will be exciting - whatever the style of play or results. There is probably a financial benefit to the fans in the prem, more TV money could subsidise lower ticket prices - it just depends how ME uses the money.
What defines good football though? Man City and Arsenal arguably have the technically best players in the country but the League table says Chelsea are the best at playing football. Football is about kicking a ball into the opposing net as many times as possible and stopping the other team doing the same. If you successfully do that every saturday you have a team that's good at playing football. Being good at making it "pretty" aswell is a different thing entirely.
Good football comes in different forms .....good passing.....spectacular goals......good defending.....commanding keeping....great skill.....or just a nice hard tackle...
Exactly, it cannot be described as winning football. Winning football could be smashing long balls upfield as you beat a non league side in the cup.
No, the league table describes winning football. Football is not solely about kicking a ball into a net. Anyone can do that. If a non league side beats another non league side it does not mean they are good at football. If Arsenal lose to Barcelona 10 times out of 10 does that mean they are not good at football? No, of course it doesn't.
It means barca are better at football than arsenal and non league side A are better at football than non league side B. Its why we have divisions and matches and not a panel awarding points for style.
Our 1980/81 side deserved to win the treble based purely on the quality football that we played. We beat the eventual champions three times that season and yet alas we fell short. I witnessed some of the best football I have ever seen but we only won 1 trophy. Would I change that season if I could? No never!
its all relative. The video of our youth teams goal that went viral was lauded as fantastic football but if they tried that against an older more experienced defence it would just be passing and would never have got the same level of attention. Giggs' FA cup goal is remembered as one one the greatest, but there was no fancy passing or triangles involved. Good defence is a neglected quality of a good footballing side - that is untill you start leaking goals.
