Someone has to do one to stop the clappers v wetters debate Norwich City V Southampton FA Cup 3rd Round v Saturday 7th January 2017, Kick Off 3pm Venue: Carrow Road We won't bother with current form because it is irrelevant and crap and ours isn't great, so it all goes out the window for the Cup! Here is some happier times.... (check the very first line of the commentary ) 23 goals there in 3 games, so come on get your bucks on a 0-1 Saints win! My team: .......................Forster Cedric ... Font ... VvD... Bertrand ........... Romeu ..... Clasie......... Sims ...............Davis .............Tadic .........................Jay Rod...................... Subs: Long, Maya, JWP, McQueen, Pete, Stephens, Lewis Anyway Saints fans "Let's be 'aving you" and sing the boys onto a much desired victory.
Claude's ready to field the youngsters ... according to the Echo, who are probably only speculating to get more fans on his back, Stephens, McQueen, Reed, Hesketh & Sims will all start. As far as I knew though, Hesketh was still injured at least!
I'm torn here. I can understand playing a few youngsters and giving some seniors a longer rest, but I also see the 'let's get a win' view too.
Couldn't give a toss if we field a team a youngsters and fringe players. I want our full strength 11 (not sure Claude knows who that is yet in fairness) against Liverpool and I'd risk going out of the FA cup for it. Plus whilst it is a risk, there is no guarantee youth and fringe players would lose.
Have also heard rumours that we are playing the youngsters. No great fan of saving players for a bigger game (with the possible exception of a Europa match). We are not going to beat Liverpool in a 2 leg match this season*....unless by a miracle we get a decent lead in the home leg. After 3 losses, we need a win....an FA Cup match against a Championship side is a chance. *Sad to think how up for this I would have been last season.
Judging on reports of youngsters I would say McCarthy Martina Stephens Yoshida McQueen Reed JWP Hojbjerg Sims Olomola Hesketh ????
I don't think we will play a wholly young team. I reckon (if McCarthy not fit) we will play Forster and 2 of our regular back four at least. McCarthy should be given a game if fit...otherwise he will never get game time.
Rests for Romeu and Virgil at the minimum please (I'd rest a lot more). We need those 2 at their absolute best if we are to get a result against Liverpool. And while I understand the 'need a win for confidence' argument, confidence won't be great if we put out our strongest team and still go out to an upset. Liverpool HAS to be the priority, and I hope the team selection reflects that. I actually think a mixture of fringe and youth will play with more freedom too, 2-0 Saints.
So you were happy to rest for an EL group game but not for a cup semi final under the lights at St Marys? Sorry Fran I really don't get that! As for the last part, you realise we lost 6-1 in this game last year? We may not go through but I bet we don't get hit for 6 next week...
Liked this from the Inside Track article on the OS: What sort of a game would you expect to see on Saturday? Beating Derby after a terrible run should ease some of the pressure on the manager and his players. Before Norwich scored the opening goal against the Rams you could feel the anxiety and the tension building amongst the Carrow Road crowd. This weekend is a bit of release from the league slog and if Neil does give fringe players a first-team chance they will be eager to impress. Southampton will want to get back to winning ways as well, so I can see quite an open affair with two teams who like to attack. Guess the journalist hasn't seen us that much this season...!!
If McCarthy is fit the he has to start, Forster is in need of a break, send the big man to the Bahama's for a couple of weeks, i would like to see McCarthy have a run in the team.
https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017...atch-norwich-city-southampton-emirates-fa-cup Redmond talking about returning to Norwich for this game. Someone should point out to him that that beard is not a success...patchy Brillo pad comes to mind.
