Northumbria Seniors Cup

Tomorrow evening Newcastle Benfield play host to Blyth Spartans in the Northumbria Seniors Cup Semi Final, each club looking to book a place in the final which will be played at St James Park.

Newcastle Benfield are currently 5th in the Northern League (division one) table, just behind Whitley Bay and 10pts behind leaders Spennymoor and are in strong form, winning 8 of their last 10 competitive matches.

Blyth Spartans are holding onto 6th place in the Conference North however having played more games than their immediate rivals, hopes of sneaking into the play-off places have all but died. A great run of form had fans dreaming but the side soon faltered following a humbling defeat to nearby rivals Gateshead in the FA Trophy. Results have picked up though and Blyth have won their last 3 games including an impressive 6-2 away victory against mid-table Vauxhall Motors.

With confidence high at Sam Smith's Park, Benfield have every reason to feel they can get a result against the side 3 leagues above them but with a trip to St James Park at stake, neither team will be taking this match lightly.



Sam Smith's Park is in Walkergate and I know most fans on here live in Newcastle. It's an evening kick-off tomorrow with only a few lower-league games and a Scottish Cup replay as distraction so why not pop down and soak in some good local football?
