Anybody know how they got on in the League Cup final? Unsurprisingly there's no coverage! Also, would just like to point out that Ferriby are top of the league with two games to play. Hednesford are also on the same points but with an inferior goal difference. And we thought our promotion race was tense! It would be great if they went up, I think we'd see more of our youth players sent there as the Conference North is a much better standard of league. Ryan Kendall won the league player of the year and has really come to life since he joined Ferriby. He never looked like he was going to settle in at City, so I'm glad he's found a club that he can thrive at - I met him at a house party in Kirk Ella a few years back just before he was released and he was a great guy.
Part One of a possible treble Won for North Ferriby Utd. Next for the Evo Stick Premier League Title and Promotion to Blue Square League North. NFU have 2 home games left. One this saturday and one on saturday may 4th 3pm ko. Win both and they are UP.!!! Possible league games against Stockport County who have just been relegated from the conference. To think that Stockport were in the 2nd tier of english football not that long ago.
Love sometimes watching Ferriby play when they're on (should City not be at home and I'm not going to the away match). I class them as my second team and it would be great if they can get themselves into the Conference North and eventually challenge for Football League status! By the sounds of things, Kendall was in some rapid form too.
Im from Ferriby originally. All my family are in the churchyard. My grandfather played for NFU when he was a young man and there are pictures of the teams he played in on the directors room wall. He would be astonished to see just what has happened since his death in 1988. The club have developed into a great non league institution and they are achieving way beyond what they really should be. I do wonder if the next step, should they win the title, may be a step too far. Their income is mainly made up from sponsorship and the gates will probably be the lowest in the Conf North should they go up. Its a great credit to the backroom staff and the Chairman and secretary especially, the way that the club has been driven on and on with such success. I hope they win their last two games and go on and prove that they can cope with the next step.
They cant go into the league, they'd have to move grounds and they barely have enough money as it is. They have plans to put a new stand in by the turnstiles which will take it up to conference standard, but that's as far as it will go I would've thought.
Just going to add this. I think in terms of achievements Ferriby are pretty much at the top of the pyramid. Promotion beyond the current expected level would financially be impossible.
Scunthorpe were in a similar position not long ago. After you've been in the Championship for 2 years you have to replace all the terracing in the ground with seating*. If your club is financially ****ed the FA/FL will provide funds to help you finance it, but if you're well run they won't. There was someone from Scunny on Football Focus in their relegation season saying that as a result they basically couldn't afford to stay up as they'd be around £500k worse off the next year if they did. *Cardiff were given an exemption as their new ground was being built so there was no point in improving the old one.
Same with Peterborough, who have to seat the away stand if they stay up this season. I wondered if they might be one of the trial clubs for the safe standing instead.
I think they're in for a convenient relegation followed by easy promotion and another 2 years at this level, again (it went a bit wrong for Scunny when they tried to copy). Would explain them being able to beat all the top teams and still being in a relegation battle.
I seem to remember that if a club keeps yo-yo-ing, they have to upgrade without the full two season grace period.
Yep this promotion would be as far as the club could go at the minute, financially there is not a chance on being able to meet all the criteria for Conference clubs. Get yourselves down to Ferriby if you can't make it to Barnsley we need all the support we can get for these 2 massive games.
