Goodness me, I know it's the job of the media to enthuse about every winner but come on, we do need the odd reality check. At The Races had this cracker today:- "Guaranteed sparks Classic hopes for Jim Bolger with Eyrefield verdict" Classics where I wonder? A *** end Group 3 race over 9F won by a 103 rated horse from the Jim "Where's my career gone dude" Bolger yard and they are shouting about the Classics? He may run in a Derby trial next is the meat on the bones of this headline. Sure, he may do that but where will he finish in the race? It's more likely he'll play zero part in next year's Derby unless it's the Guernsey Derby they are talking about. I thought I had better consult Oddschecker to see if Guaranteed had sparked the market for the Derby with an avalanche of cash but much as I looked, there was no sign of him in a book going all the way down to 100/1 shots. Come on ATR, get real and ditch these silly headlines. As Les Dennis would say on Family Fortunes, if Guaranteed win the Derby, I'll give you the money myself. Surely we deserve credit for a bit more nous than entertaining that headline as professional journalism. The author must be working on a 4 key typewriter where only the letters A C P R are functional.
