Hi people, all my life i've been soooooooo anti drugs and only take the odd paracetamol! I've been trying so hard to get it down from 7 with a strict diet and failed. I know find myself taking Atorvastatin 20mg. anyway I just wanted to ask If anyone else takes statins and how did they make you feel when you first started and your thoughts? I've read that they are a wonder drug. questions? 1 can you drink on them ( I love Red Wine)? 2 what side effects did you have? 3 and how long did it take to lower you Cholestrol? Thanks for any info COYRS
I'm not on them Eddie, and would strongly suggest you read the info that come with them and ask your GP if you have any concerns. But statins are good drugs - the government has considered having them prescribed as a preventative for all over 50s, which to me means you must be able to drink on them! Personally I would never take any medicine unless I have a condition that needs treatment - they all have side effects, and some people react badly to very benign drugs (usually nausea, the runs, headaches or something). If you have been prescribed these your GP should have set a date for review and to re-measure your cholesterol level. If he hasn't go back and ask. Hope this helps. I'm not a clinician but do work in this area. Best advice is always to consult your doctor.
Hi Eddie. My cholesterol was up about 4/5 months ago. Benecol (plant statins) helped get mine down with reducing saturated fats. There is no known interaction with alcohol. Hurray! Avoid grapejfruit juice in large quantities if on Atorvastatin though and don't take any if on simvastatin. Good news is red wine increases ur HDL or good cholesterol. Also some research into statins having anti- cancer properties. Have a large Red on me mate!!
