Sat at the weekend reading about Wayne Bridge........contracted till 2013 on £90,000 week and didn't want to play regular football elsewhere. Clearly most clubs would have taken him if his wages had been paid. He's not in the CL 25 and trains on his own. Happy to sit it out.

Alan Smith is just the same.....£60,000pw. Could have easily gone anywhere with Newcastle chipping in most or all his wages. He's not even able to get a first team call for Carling Cup!

Are these two lads worth nothing now, or are they just examples of past talents?

If you were earning £60,000 to £90,000 a week to train a few times a week and nothing else would you take it? I certainly would. Man City will be in trouble when their financial backer gets bored, they deserve it though, just for paying Wayne Bridge £90,000 a week.

I thought this was gonna be about Shola and his inability to do what he is paid to!

I must admit I find it staggering they don't just want to play football. The money they earn you'd think they'd just agree a reduced severance fee and move on. I know they probably feel they've been shat on but I'd just want to play. I often wonder if there is more than meets the eyes with these things. A few have suggested as much. By that I mean when they get these monster wages they make financial commitments that mean they need to keep earning the same money for each year of the contract.

Agreed, but both clubs surely would ave subsidised wages.........Bellamy was classic example. In my mind they're both finished.

Aye agree but how many Kenny Dalglish's are there willing to persuade their owners to get what he wants! As I say there may be more to it or they may just be greedy bastardos! I don't rate either and I think the problem is the reduction in wages they'd have to take would be massive as clubs could get better quality for a lot cheaper. The moves to ourselves and Citeh on monster wages were great for them while their stock was high but PL managers can see exactly what we can. They're on the slide and cannot justify massive wages.

I'd take it but I'd request a loan for the sake of my pride. I'd be embarrassed to collect that sort of money for doing nothing, knowing people are hating me for being so lazy. I'd want to prove that I'm still a quality footballer, Bridge at West Ham, Smith at Leeds, I'd be more than willing to drop a level, especially considering I'd still be on top dollar.

Look at Xisco. Fair play he's a flop for us and he's collecting his silly wages but he clearly wants to play and so has been loaned out multiple times. Smith is in the exact same position (except his next move will probably be retirement) and as good as he may be at 'boosting morale' he's a massive drain on the club. I couldn't live with myself in that situation.

I feel really sorry for Barton getting paid more to play for a club that he never wanted to play for... <whistle>

    Yes it is!

"Boss, am I in the first team plans?"
    "No."
"I want to play. Loan me out."

That came out wrong. If you were offered your normal wages to sit around every day and only work for 2/3 hours a day or half them and work much harder, what would you do?

Aye but their job is fantastic and its about professional integrity. I suppose these two know this is their last big contract and want to milk it for all its worth but I just think they get well paid anyway, I'd want to play

Why would your wages drop when out on loan? You still get the full amount, just it may come from two different clubs.
