Good news today that Megan Stammers family have been in contact. It now seems that 'sir' will get some kind of punishment. So where does this fit? Is it a case of a 'crime of passion' - after all this could happen to anyone of us. Should the authorities seek to intervene? Can society apply the same rules when you have two love-struck individuals?
I noticed the French didn't give a toss as the age of consent in DT's adopted homeland is 15. Is that wrong? Are we wrong here in the UK?
Whatever the age of consent is in France is irrelevant. This predator broke the law. He is in a position of trust and he used this trust as a means to groom minors. Hang him, he is a serious wrong 'un.
He will be sacked and charged with something, not sure if he can go on the SOR if he hasnt touched her. He will probably only get a few months if anything. I dont think it would happen to us, especially if the child was in our care. If they guy was 17 or 18 then its understandable but hes much older.
Evening mate Interesting thread. The way I see it is no matter what excuse the guy rolls up with he cross a line and he should be made to suffer. Stick him in with Huntley and let the lags do the rest. What ever happened to morals in this land of ours ? Bring back capital punishment it might act as a deterrent to these twats
Thanks Cerny cat. I cannot make my mind up over this one - say they are genuinely star crossed lovers?
sku, if he wasn't a teacher it would not have made the headlines. there are probably lots of 25-30yr old men having a sexual relationship with willing and quite mature girls who are underage. They are the ones the police will target if it gets reported but an 18yr old lad with a 14 yr old girl wont even be questioned. every time a girl under 16 and a half gives birth there is a crime that has been commited but who cares? certainly not the law As for the age of consent WBA, who knows? There are some women in their 20's who shouldn't be having sex. I suppose the answer depends on whether you are a parent of a 13-15 year old girl.
Not quite yet, but it will soon come round, and when it does will I empathise with her boyfriend? Will I remember how I was as a teenager?? As I said, moral dilemma.
I don't buy it. Thing is he was empowered into a position of responsibility and he has down the lowest of the low. Hang the cnut
According to the law of this land Megan Stammers is underage. This means that any male over the age of consent is committing a crime, regardless of whether he is 16, 30 or 95 - although I might have some sympathy for the 16 year old, because he's hardly a mature adult at that age. It matters not a jot whether they were 'star-crossed lovers' or just out for fling, he broke the law and must face the consequences. In the meantime, this silly little deluded girl has caused her family considerable pain and anguish. If anybody is genuinely arguing that a relationship between a 15 year old girl and a 30 year old man is excusable if it is 'true love', then why not a 14 year old girl, or a 13 year old, etc. Where do you draw the line if it is 'true love'? P.S. The calls for hanging the man, however, are quite franky ridiculous. I'm all for bringing back capital punishment, but let's leave that little gem for murderers, terrorists and the like.
Your too soft mate. I would hang all sex cases, muggers, burglers , druggies and thieves. They are scum and should swing. I can't be tolerating scumbags. See ya.
Interesting moral dilemma indeed. Nobody can know the truth behind all of this. Both have made a big mistake by their action to run away. He has thrown his career into the toilet. She will come out of it as a silly girl with a crush on teacher. Lack of moral judgement on behalf of both of them - and consequences must ensue now for him. Plenty of cases of couples with 15 yrs age gap. However if they were both committed, they should have waited until she was 16 and followed their heart. Pay the price young man for foolish and irresponsible behaviour!!!
I tend to agree - it's the age thing that's the fatal flaw here - you're right - whilst there would still be the stigma of the 'abuse of responsible position' - legally there would be no case. I cannot help thinking that if M had called home on arriving in France, this would have negated the 'man hunt' and national / international press coverage. Now the authorities have to be seen to act. As for 'sir' - he has a marriage to work out, a job to be fired from, and will be known widely when he seeks to pursue another career.
An interesting manifesto, Nines, and one that I'm sure would win you many votes. The problem is, where do you draw the line? What do you include within your definition of 'sex crime'? Is this the poor flasher that exposes himself in the park? The 16 year old girl who seduces the 15 year old boy? The poor sap accused of rape after a one night stand that the young lady now regrets? It is a brave man or woman that sits in judgement of these crimes. What about burglars and thieves? Does this extend to the petty thief who nabs a few free pens from the works' stationery cupboard? That's theft, right? What about the kids that steam into the corner shop en masse and trouser the sweeties? That's also theft, right? I completely detest everything associated with illicit drugs and pray to God that my children are never caught in this web of filfth. I might be tempted to support the death penalty for those that supply this muck and protect their 'business' with threats, violence and control. But hang the druggies? I'm no softy-wofty tambourine-tapping liberal, Nines, so I'm not going to spout junk about drug addicts deserving our sympathy, because they don't. As far as I'm concerned, most can shrivel away from the inside out in their own squalor of **** and piss as long as they do it without impacting on the lives of innocent, law-abiding people that do not wish to be associated with that world. It is when drug addicts resort to crime to feed their disgusting habit that the full weight of the law should be brought to bear. But then it must be proportionate to the crime committed. Likewise muggers. The death penalty should be brought back, but then only for the most serious of crimes such as murder, attempted murder, extreme violence with the intention to cause death or serious injury, acts of terrorism and treason etc. It is the criminal justice system (which is becoming progressively more crap and namby-pamby corduroy liberal) that is responsible for much of what is laid before us in society. Prison should be a bleak, austere and imposing experience, run by the authorities, where inmates are required to work hard and behave. It should be a short, sharp shock and deterrent for young offenders. Instead, it is largely run by inmates and social engineers, where warders turn a blind eye to drug use because it helps stupify the prisoners. It should not be a place where inmates can enjoy television, the vote and conjugal visits. By all means bring back the birch and public floggings for muggers and the like, Nines. I'm all for an 'eye for an eye', but the notion of hanging such a broad range of offenders is absurd. Soft, I ain't. But neither do I come from the knee-jerk, hang 'em high, lynch mob brigade that hammer on the side of black marias when suspects are taken to court.
He is supposed to be a 'professional', total betrayal of trust and inexcusable. Regardless of the whys and wherefores of this case he has crossed the line and has to pay the price. Those who say he should wait until she is 16 miss the point, the 'grooming' is done and the age line is irrelevant. Imagine it was your 15 year old daughter...
