A piece of Wycombe history has turned up in an antiques shop in Tewkes. I saw a cast iron maker's mark, the size of a dinner plate and about a quarter of an inch thick bearing the words "Broome and Wade Engineers High Wycombe". Looked on the net and saw that this company was really big for a lot of years in the town, but may have been lost or taken over in recent times. One Old Boys' school website was full of people that had started their careers there (and a couple that had played for The Chairboys as well). A snip for local historians at twenty quid. Plus 10% finder's fee, of course. Tewkes
One of my brothers-in-law apprenticed there and was Apprentice of the Year every year he was there. He is now listed in the IT publication for the London Olympics and contributed/edited most of it. My brother worked there for many years, as a sales executive and then buyer. I played football against them once. Quite a good side they had. I think we lost a close game. Do you have a link for the web site?
Here's my BIL in action in Dallas. Didn't even know it was there http://www.switchnewmedia.com/innovate11/VOD_Dallas/Stuart_Revell_Video_Archive.htm https://twitter.com/#!/UKTItechworld/statuses/169711333758074880 ****ing bright he is.
I played against their cricket team a few times at their ground in Hughenden but don't know a lot about the company itself.
Amazing. Here's a few links, Ron - there's lots of references to the company on the net, but no dedicated website, which is what makes me think they don't exist in that form any more. http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Broom_and_Wade http://www.britishpathe.com/video/broomwade-presents-reel-1 http://www.jjp.co.uk/about/quality.htm I think this may be the company that's taken them over (?) http://www.rgsow.com/abroad/index.php Check out the entry for Otto Decker on this one, an ex-Chairboy. There's stacks of stuff - this must have been a very significant hub of life and industry in the area for a long time.
I remember them being taken over by Compair. Lost track after that. When I'm in UK I drive past the old B&W site a lot. It's my route from Hazlemere to Lane End, missing the traffic.
