Hey Reds (Shamefully copied from the sags board) Seen this on there board and thought it was a good idea. Being a young city fan myself I can't date back as far as some on here. So lets see what our Best Ever City Team is. It will be a 4-4-2 formation. So from our history who do we think was our best Goalkeeper My vote is Basso -----------------------------------------GK---------------------------------------- RB--------------------RCB--------------------------LCB-----------------------LB RM-------------------RCM-------------------------LCM-----------------------LM --------------------------ST-------------------------ST----------------------------
as he not been there long enough can't say heats tho he doesnt make many mistakes like the others i seen think hendo woulda been good but i gotta choose between Philips and basso so i going with Philips i think
Basso....not necessarily on his goalkeeping ability but on the way he gave us a special bond with him. He bought the whole team and fans together in a special way in a special season. And of course, he gave US......no one else...US.....the "Always believe chant". It started at Ashton Gate then the rest of the UK took it off us. "Oh Basso......oh Basso!!"
I love basso for the reasons you've said Caldicot, That OH Basso chant was sang from EVERYBODY in ashton gate. He also loved making saves for the camera, A true legend
I am old enough to remember Gibbo and his and our ritual 1...2...3...4 and jump and grab the crossbar,he was a hero, one of the boys and better than Basso IMHO,a true City legend, please give him my vote......Gibson....
My choice among keepers who played a significant part of their career at BCFC, thus excluding those like Jan Moller who only had one season here; My Candidates; Tony Cook, Mike Gibson, John Shaw, Keith Welch, Adriano Basso, Ray Cashley. My all time City best; Mike Gibson with Tony Cook and John Shaw very close. All three did nearly ten years in the first team and you do not manage that if you are not a very good keeper. Also both 100% City all the time they were here.
Another favourite of mine was Bob Anderson,I met him in North St once, had a chat for 10 mins,I was so star-struck I forgot to ask him for his autograph...what a twat I am...
Jan Möller pour moi. I do remember 'we got dodgey Ron, we got dodgey Ron' I think it was Mark Prudhoe that was the 1st keeper to play the ball on the floor advancing up the field instead of a big kick, then they all copied him.
Just to let you all know ill run this until Wednesday 7pm ill then count the votes winner will be selected for our dream team. If its joint ill do a 24 hour poll so vote quick!
Have to say Ray Cashley, followed by Gibbo & Welch. Reason for Cash has to be, he was there in the glory years. Oh and scored!
MIke Gibson - followed by Ray Cashley then ole Baldy himself John Shaw(wasn't a bad keeper for a full back was he)(just for us oldies) I remember Cashley and Shaw comming up to Barrow Hospital when we had some event yp there to raise money and they let us take penalties against them I remember because I scored twice one against each- the biggest laugh was there was a loud mouthed Gashead who was at the event mouthing off that it was easy for them as the goal was slightly smaller than usual so they challenged him to save penalties from them, and cos he was a mouthy git he went between the sticks still giving it large Cash hit the first one and he didn't even see it let alone move the Shaw hit one right at him and he ended up in the bck of the net with the ball absolutey magic for all us City fans there. Was a season ticket holder at the Gate then during my 30 years as such so many great memories and disappointments as well but RED TIL I DIE.
