"Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan has apologised to the club's fans for his upbeat assessment of Andy Carroll's move to Liverpool.

Boyhood Reds fan Nolan told Liverpool TV he was "delighted" for Carroll, who was joining a "fantastic club".

But the comments angered Newcastle fans upset at losing their hometown hero.

"If fans don't like it, I apologise," said Nolan. "I'm getting quite sick of the Andy Carroll saga. I just want to put it to bed and get on with it."

He added: "The last thing I want is to start upsetting our fans because they have been brilliant."

Carroll helped Newcastle win promotion last season, has scored 11 Premier League goals in 19 appearances this season and won his first England cap in November.

He became the most expensive British player in history with his £35m transfer from St James' Park to Anfield on Monday.

"There's no-one more disappointed than me," said Nolan. "Not only have we lost a top player but I've lost a good mate who was very close." "

The rest of the article is all about Carroll, and I dont give a **** about that. So.

    Thoughts?

There was less back peddling at last year's Tour de France. He's a Liverpool fan and I think he didn't think through what he was saying during the original interview. Not the best thing to say as our club captain. From what I've seen of him though he'll get his head down and work hard after that error and poor performance against Fulham, hopefully they all will.

I've no real problem with what Nolan said, but can understand why some people got pissed by it. You have to remember they are good mates and even shared a house together so he will want to wich AC well, maybe should have phrased it a bit better.

But he has tried to also draw a line under it for club and supporters to stop dwelling it, move on and start looking forward.

The commentator or Real Radio was talking about Nolan a few weeks back and was on about his presents around the squad and training ground etc, and was saying how Nolan and Barton were the life and soul of the team and he has a great way of lifting the team which I think he will be doing. He is the best person to captain the club IMO
And his comments in this morning reports are one of looking forward and doing their job for NUFC.

He's miffed that he's lost out on rent and has to spend the next few weeks getting a new lodger.

    I feel for him.

It's never a nice situation to be in.

I wonder if Ireland meeds a place to stay. They could even car share!

Good times lay ahead Kevin. You just have to believe.

Are you joking? Nolan will go out for a meal and by the time he's back Ireland will have done a 'Big Fat Gypsy Makeover' on the house!
