Dagenham & Redbridge are struggling in the National League -- one off the bottom place ( reserved for poor old Dover Athletic ). D&R have our star striker, Conor Wilkinson on loan to help them out of their predicament. What does it say to Wilkinson when he wasn't even named in the squad for the game v Sutton on Saturday ?
Hate ! What is there to like ? Waldo - 'hate'is a strong accusation ! - it is the wrong accusation ! There are various reasons why players are 'sent out', on loan. I would expect that most, if not all the reasons , have a professional agenda - I don't think that 'hatred' of character comes into the equation. Like many fans of GFC, I would like to see our strikers score more frequently. I would like our defenders to concede fewer goals. I would like our players to possess more skill than they do. I don't hate the fact that they don't ! When a striker doesn't score goals, it doesn't mean that he is incapable. Usually, unless he is given the correct level of 'service,' or, if the formation / tactics of the side does not suit , the striker will stand little chance of a goal-scoring opportunity. This was clearly evident when we re-signed Cody McDonald. In his first stint with The Gills,, he had Akinfenwa alongside him - and fed off the knock-downs and lay-offs that The Beast provided. Cody couldn't stop scoring. When McDonald returned, he didn't have Akinfenwa in the side. Cody often had to chase the ball. He was played out of position etc, etc - all of which meant that the goals dried up. I don't think that anyone of us ( including brb ) hated Cody for his lack of goals. The Gills have players of limited skill - whether they be a striker or defender. I am pragmatic about this situation, as I am sure most fans are - but - what I don't like ( perhaps hate ), is when players do not give appropriate effort. I have stated this fact many times -- I don't like losing matches - but I hate it if players don't ' try .' It could be said that Wilkinson hasn't had much luck - either with the 'service' he has been given, or the team formation, tactics etc. I could ask what luck has Nash had ? or Mbo ? -- at very least, Wilkinson can't say that he hasn't featured in the side. 4 goals in 50 games doesn't look productive - but that statistic may hide a greater reason for Lovell to send Wilkinson out on loan. Is he one of the alleged disruptive influences in the side ? Is he not giving proper effort and commitment ? If the answer(s) is/are 'yes', then it may help in the overall development ( of all aspects ), of his game, if Wilkinson spends time away from the Club - other than being sent home a-la- a naughty schoolboy (( by the way - I hated the 'public' announcement of such decisions - keep them 'in-house.')). In creating this thread, I posed a question. Your response suggests that I hate Wilkinson. Whilst there may be various reasons why, as a professional footballer, I don't particularly like him at GFC (( along with many/most of the rest of the squad )), I don't hate the man (men). Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't expect everyone to always like mine, or to always agree with me. I understand the sentiment that is behind your reply to my post - and in several ways I can sympathise with you wishing to defend the statistics of a striker who isn't scoring goals. I have attempted to qualify my position as it relates to Conor Wilkinson. You are wrong in any accusation that I hate Wilkinson - I don't like the accusation - but I don't hate you for it ! ps - I won't apologise for being 'clever.' I may be old, grey, fat and ugly -but I'm not stupid ! pps I would like to refer you to my post in the AGRS thread ( 16 October )- in which I have given previous qualification of my thoughts about 'hate'
Not stupid, just incredibly and unbelievably over sensitive. No wonder you have so few participants on this board.
I am not 'alwaysright.' - but I will try to give reason to my point of view. I can accept that hate is an emotion that is often expressed without justification ......For the sake of peace in this World - that mindset has to change - but that doesn't stop us from having different opinions.... Each opinion isn't necessarily wrong - but not exclusively correct -- I try to give some evidence for my viewpoint. In Wilkinson's case, I have tried to be kind and objective as possible - by suggesting that his loan to Dagenham may not just be about improving his technical abilities. I am not going to hate Wilkinson just because he hasn't scored X number of goals. I know exactly what the limits of expectation is at GFC. It isn't very much ! I do expect 100% honest commitment from the players ( win, draw or lose. ) I am unsure if I am over-sensitive when it comes to The Gills. My description would be 'passionate.' I 'care' about 'my club' - and that is why I will continue to do my 100 mile trip for every 'home' game - even if we get relegated. I stand by my original post and subsequent defence of your reply -- and I'm not going to apologise for any over sensitivity in this post. As for the 'inactivity' of this site, - I had better express my gratitude for your contribution. Perhaps you might need a lie down after making your 15th post in 4 & half years............an effort of McCammon proportions. ( even Wilkinson has scored more than 15 goals in the same amount of time .) sensitive ! I don't think so -- crass - YES
Don't have any of the idiots that frequent the vital board either (not directed at you Waldo) so we can't have it two ways. You either get idiots, or you get intelligence in small numbers. Funny how the world works.
I have come back from Israel in quite a philosophical mood - it looks like that it's rubbing off on some of you... or have I rubbed people off the wrong way ( as usual )… ps - brb - take care not to laugh too much - you wouldn't want to burst your colostomy bag
Pegleg just called you intelligence in small numbers You know i'm only joking lads Btw Waldo, if you can continue to keep my mate alwaysright in check when i'm not around that would be much appreciated
