"No wonder we haven't won so much as a tin pot let alone another major championship since 1966."

Fantastic player, but coming across bitter and twisted. I think the FA and PFA could have helped him when he fell on hard times, but in all honesty if you make thousands and thousands (these days Millions) from a football career then you pi$$ it up the wall, don't blame others for your failings.

Yep, he comes across as bitter and twisted. The article does mention that he was capped under Revie after serving a 3 year suspension for refusing a call up to the under 23s, so who's fault is that that it probably affected his international career? Maybe he was considered too much trouble to pick in a squad. It's horrible that he was hit by a hit and run driver and hadn't had as much support as he probably should have, but it was 24 years ago and he seems to have f@cked up a lot of his life before and after that. And when you look at his career statistics it looks like he didn't play regularly after 1976 in the old first division before going to play in America, so might not have justified many call ups.

This sounds like some bitter attention seeking for sob story cash.

Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he should dwell on the good there has been in his life. Many a bloke who has spent his working life down the pit or the dock bottom would have loved to have had his talent and opportunities.

So the Arse hole wants to rewrite history, he’s either a Mag or a BLM activist. He shouldn’t have played for England if he was gonna decide 30 years later he didn’t want to. The ****in prick.
Get ower yourself and stop dwelling on the past ya life will be so much easier.

I love it when someone with a bit of fame, looks towards the good folk of Sunderland for a bit of sympathy, then gets beaten to fek with home truths, nowt like a bit of sunlun down to earth to put them right
