We all want a new striker signed in the window, an experienced striker, but would you be disappointed if we didnt get anyone ?
We have Sess,(although I'd rather see him on the wing or behind the striker), Bendy, Connor, Ji and now young Frazier is back.
We also have the prospect of Gyan returning for next season ? Oh and Noble waiting in the wings.
Do we need a new striker ?
I say yes and loan out Ji and Noble, play Sess in MF and we have Bendy, Connor and Frazier vying for the position up front along with a new signing ?
Go all out for Defoe I say.

This... Ba is fantastic - exactly the type of player we need (better goalscorer than Bent IMO - much better finisher) - if his buy out clause is as low as £5m then this is a no risk plan

Personally I could see a short term solution in a loan because MON is going to have some big decisions in the summer. I fully expect Bendter to go back to Arsenal but we really don't know what will happen with Gyan. Gyan is injured at the moment and surely he needed a big display in the ACN to get a big money move in the summer. The likelyhood is no big side will want him as he has effectively been out of the game for a year. MON might have a decision to make about him and he will also have had a few months of a fit Campbell to decide if he can come back to the level he was at before his injury.

It really depends who is available, if we are held to ransom I don't think MON will buy anyone but if there is a good deal to be done I think he will do it. Otherwise I can see a loan for someone, god knows who though.

Got to agree with Cest here.

My first choice would be Defoe.

Others I would like are; Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Rhodes or (Matt) Phillips.

i cant see us getting one in this window as u wont get value for money but i do see us maybe getting a defender or 2 just to shore us up but who knows what mon thinks of his squad as i would of got rid of 90% of them under bruce but they all seem to be playing 10 times better under mon well apart from bendtner!

Mon likes to play 1 up front in the style of heskey a big fella who is good in the air and can hold the ball up and then have to wingers and a attacking midfielder to play of him. i think we will go for a striker in the summer and we may see fraizer doing what gabby agbonglohor does at villa ...out on the wings cutting in

Generally agree the sentiments expressed here, however I do not like vermin defoe, but that is a personal thing.

With the likes of Wickham and Bendtner up front having someone like vermin defoe, a 'fox in the box' alongside we should score striker goals and add to them the likely midfield ones from Larsson Sess Gardner Vaighan and we are looking like a team.

If you look at the squad:

    GK: Westwood, Mignolet, Gordon, O'Shea

    RB: O'Shea, Bardsley, Gardner
    LB: O'Shea, Bardslet, Colback, Richardson
CB: O'Shea, Brown, Kilgallon, Bramble, Turner
    RM: O'Shea, Sessegnon, Larsson, Gardner
LM: O'Shea, Sessegnon, Richardson, McClean, Vaughan
CM: O'Shea, Cattermole, Colback, Gardner, Vaughan, Richardson, Sessegnon, Larsson
CF: O'Shea, Wickham, Bendtner, Campbell, Ji

It's not a bad sqaud overall with O'Shea to cover in any position (he has played all 11 positions for Utd in the past at some point!!)

Seriously though the squad itself is quite healthy with a number of players to play in every position

I have probably missed some out but this was all done from memory... Not a bad squad all in all...

Interesting this. Wouldn't bother me too much if we didn't as already said value is usually ****e in January & clubs are held to ransome.

Of some of those mentioned, Ba, definate yes.

    Arseshaver, please no.

has the Transfer Window opened yet...this has to be one of the quietest I can remember

There haven't even been many rumours in the press, although craggy face has stirred up the honey pot already:emoticon-0112-wonde

In fact there hasn't been any serious moves yet - few in the lower leagues, although I guess most will happen near the end of the window, as per the norm.

I had hoped we would have the players MON wanted already lined up and signed by now, but he only appears to be issuing handsoff warnings about Ses, Richardson etc!!!

Better give him a nudge (just in case he has forgot)<whistle>

Interesting that you lot think Ba would be a good signing.

Let's say all of the talk is true about release clause (although overall package is supposed to be @ £20m) and you have a bid of £5-7m accepted. Do you think your backroom staff, board, chairman and anyone else who counts could convince Ba to move from Newcastle to Sunderland?

I'd doubt it if I'm honest and with all due respect he'd more than likely have bigger teams in for his services than you lot.

I actually came on here to say I hope Campbell gets back to his best and his injury nightmares are behind him now. Good luck with the kid.

Of course, you are right about Ba but one thing's for sure, if you don't try you don't get.

As the SAS say, who dares wins.

As for Campbell, I hope he is as good before his first injury but it will take him some time to get fully up to pace I feel.

Has had two reserve games now & scored last night so here's hoping.

I don't for a minute think we will try and buy Demba Ba, and can understand your comments that he probably wouldn't move from Newcastle to Sunderland at this time.

However, as we have seen so often with footballers there is one thing that talks these days. I assume he isn't on the megabucks the big boys offer at Newcastle (maybe £30k ish) so the test will be if one of the big boys comes in brandishing mega bucks around.

To be honest I would like to see him stay as too many footballers are greedy so-and-so's but you never know!

I would not be to unhappy if we did not sign a new forward in this window. MON is gettingto know the squad and getting them to play well. A lot oftransfers in this window are often seen as panic buys and ifthey are any good you pay over the odds and if the price looks good it normally means thatthey are not the player the once were.

The exception would be a player at the end oftheir contract or with a fixed price buy out clause (I dont mean Ba, I would like him but we will not get him.)

So I am happy as we are give God sorry MON the rest of the season to work with his current squad, we will be comfortable, then look in the summer, by which time the last of Keans high paid signing should have seen their contracts run out and be off the books.
