.... but it is on the horizon ... There will be no imminent redevelopment at the KP Stadium, however, despite the Champions League being on the horizon. Claudio - "Next season it's not possible to build a new stand. The owner told me it's possible to grow the stadium (in the future)."
I think if we're looking like getting into Europe next season (i.e. the wheels don't fall off) by the winter then we'll expand over 2017's summer.
Takes more then 2 months to build a stand so we would have to groundshare with someone for a while. Wonder if we could use Welford Road - otherwise it would be Villa Park or Ricoh I bet.
Welford road pitch isn't big enough I think - hence why it wasn't used for the rugby World Cup but the football stadium was. It's one of the smallest pitches in the league. I'm a season ticket there
From a location perspective I'd have thought the Richo would be the most probable but Villa park does have a greater capacity. If we'd just be building on to an existing stand, I think that's what the existing planning permission is for, it wouldnt take too long surely?
The size of football pitches are a lot laxer - can easily fit inside Welford Road. please log in to view this image
Would need to rip out the new stand first to make a new one without damaging the rest - easy to screw up so want them to take time over it. Also means that they can sort out a few other things they were talking about like the corporate boxes, restaurants etc.
Why play on a ~20000 3-sided stadium when there is a 32000/40000+ stadium more or less down the road that will want some money due to no Premier League football being played there? Should be able to get a deal as good as West Ham got with theirs.
Rugby pitches are narrower and longer including the dead ball line - a legal football pitch would fit in easily. please log in to view this image The Tigers pitch is 69m wide - they get special dispensation to play rugby there but the killjoys that run the World Cup didn't allow it. Just realised that the surface wouldn't be suitable for football though - remember how crap the pitch looked after Tigers played at the then Walkers Stadium years ago. Would have to be Ricoh or Villa Park then - more likely Ricoh as they would be more desperate for money from a decent club playing there.
I thought the East Stand was built a special way that would allow expansion at a later date, so no need to start from the ground up.
According this both the Kop and the East stand can be increased without relatively much fuss http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/L...ower-Stadium/story-26705268-detail/story.html I stand corrected - maybe they can do it in a couple of months then.
