A lot of very unnecessary, damning threads about our players and manager at the moment so thought I'd throw in something a bit different.

Capello was at the game on Sunday, so what are the chances of SWP and Ferdinand sneaking into the England squad this season?

I know Capello won't have been there for R's players but thought both had plus points aplenty.

Ferdinand with yet another solid, no nonsense display. I know we conceded 3 and have let in a few this year but Cahill is still included from a poor performing Bolton side. I'd also say he's out performing the Sunderland defense that supposedly didn't need him.

SWP had another lively game and had a couple of moments where he got the better of Walker (who Capello would have been watching) and looked tidy even when there were lots of Spurs players about. He does need a goal or an assist to prove his worth but I do think he's occupying several opposition players each time he picks up the ball which creates space for others.

Barton is well out of the picture unless he can find his best form and then maintain it.

    Thoughts people.....

Would like to see both included in the squad but would that be possible at the moment with terry still there? plus Phillips needs an end product to his runs at the moment.
Would be good to see Ferdinand take terry's place though.

Ferdinand will not get a call up until Terry leaves the squad. By the time this happens Capello will no longer be manager. Even if he was playing MoM performances every week, Ferdinand will not get into the squad whilst memories of the Terry affair are still in people's memory. Terry would never play with Anton, and if Terry is booted then it will be said that Anton did it on purpose to get Terry's place. Sad, but true.

SWP has no chance under Capello. Hasn't finshed well enough. Wanders off-side too often.

Neither has a chance because, fine players as they are, they are not international quality, and there is plenty of competition for their positions. in addition to the points made above.
Will Rio line up next to Terry for England?

This does raise another question - how good do you need to be to warrant exclusion of other players?

There was a time when Terry was the best CB but I wouldn't say so in the last two years.

He's also cost us (England hat on here) Bridge as a left back and, potentially/theoretically, Anton.

Both good players for us, especially Anton who has been a revelation to me, but neither is international class imo.

Terry (30), R.Ferdinand (33) and Jagielka (29) are all older than A.Ferdinand. Also they're all out of form. If Terry gets done for racism, he could go. R.Ferdinand is out-of-favour, and will eventually get injured. Jagielka is doing nothing for my fantasy team. i know Smalling, Jones and Cahill are all gonna come through, but if they get a few injuries, then why not. I really cant see anyone after the six i've mentioned who's better than A.Ferdinand.

Ferdinand would be well down the list. Smalling and Jones would be ahead of him in addition to those mentioned plus plenty of others. SWP has more of a chance imo although he'd have to play well for a while yet. I'd pick him over Lennon to go to Euro 2012 but it's unlikely either will really.
