I think we all suspected Ken did not want to pay the extra money to the Creditors, but I thought it was only for 5 years & next year would be the big push.. However it looks like we might have to wait a little longer... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6262260.stm
Yep I know, but it means that Uncle Ken would have to repay 30p in the £1 to all the old creditors if we make the Premiership within 10 years (i.e before 2018)... Looks like we will keep selling players and swapping managers for another 5 years to avoid promotion at all costs...
No, just think about the amount of money that is earned when getting promotion to the premier league. Then think of Bates sacking Grayson because results weren't coming and employing a manager that has been promoted from the league 7 times. Tell me he is trying to avoid promotion, I'll give you hes not throwing everything at it exactly but he's not trying to hold out till 2018 for promotion
Well Old Peacock seems to be right so far. Surely if you go on the principle of how much LU would make in the Prem, Bates would of spent £15 million more on players a year last Christmas to get those same rewards. Some people may not be that stupid after all.
I'm no Bates lover but I've always thought this is a stupid theory, Bates would make more money than he would lose by getting to the PL sooner.
Two points on this: 1) If he is not sabotaging promotion deliberately, is he just inept? 2) Yes, there is a ton of money in the Prem but what is the timing of the cashflows? How much investment is needed up front? LUFC could not borrow 5,000,000 to reacquire a 14,000,000 property. The club has resorted to selling preferred stock with a 25% guaranteed return regardless of time. Smacks of desperation and an inability to raise funds. Why would anyone think that raising funds to cashflow the large outgo right after promotion to the Prem is so easy for Leeds United?
Who knows if the payments would come into effect immediately after promotion though. ie would we be given time to improve our cashflow in the prem?
Sherlock Holmes: ""When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"
Payments out, like signing players, I know not always paid upfront, are immediate. TV money, league money comes later.
You can't just decide to get promoted. It is actually quite a difficult task to get a club promoted, ask leicester
Is he even getting us close? I guess close is relative. Best I can come up with is we got close to promotion last season and this season we were close in August.
I think that in the next 6 seasons, Leeds will be promoted once and relegated twice - in what order though?
A club can decide and demonstrate that it wants promotion. With the inability to retain its core, young players over the last 3 years, I defy anyone to show us how Leeds United has demonstrated that it wants promotion. As for Leicester or any other club, that is not my concern or problem. I care about Leeds United as I am sure their fans care about them.
Using other clubs as examples of poor management to compare it with your own is a perfectly valid and reasonable argument. You can't just dismiss it The way you worded it was as if he could get promotion if he wanted to but he can't be bothered. I still maintain that he has shown he wants promotion, he hasn't exactly jumped in with both feet but sacking Grayson and appointing a manager with known success of promotion from this league for me proves it. Not only has he appointed a manager with proven success to his name, he is also very outspoken and will demand things that he think are required. He will be giving funds to Warnock in the summer I think
