Harry Redknapp has no place for two QPR strikers By Paul Warburton Rangers boss says frontmen will have to fight it out for starting spot please log in to view this image Back in the fold: Andy Johnson may have to wait for his chance after returning to fitness Even though Andrew Johnson is fit again â QPRâs boss reckons the striker has to wait his turn for a starting role. Harry Redknapp plans to ignore any temptation to play Charlie Austin and Johnson in tandem and stick with a tried-and-tested formula of one lone Ranger, and one behind in the âhole.â Redknapp explained: âPeople talk about playing two up, but I thought Junior Hoilett was a big threat to Wigan on Wednesday night in that hole. âSo rather than stick two up, Junior in behind was a problem. If you stick two up against centre halves the forwards are easier to mark.â Niko Kranjcar confirmed he felt a hamstring twinge just before half time in the 0-0 with the Latics, and must be rated doubtful to face the return of former Rs coach Steve McClaren and his Derby team to Loftus Road on Saturday. http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/harry-redknapp-no-place-two-6260046 Now this should go down well with the mob.
In which case a fit again Johnson must surely be considered as the lone striker. Austin works hard but has failed to really impress me. Either way the problem remains having someone 'in the hole' (yuk) who can hold the ball up and allow others to join an attack. We seem to have no one of that ilk. Krancjar may be an option but is being played too deep.
So let's get this right. Harry spends time and money assembling a squad of 25 so that he can play one striker when he can see plainly that we cannot score goals? What des he want? Money to buy more midfielders? The man's a genius. He's obviously spotted something the rest of us have missed. Or he is stubbornly refusing to adapt. This means that, like every other manager before him, he will continue to play the same way and with the same favourites however poorly they are playing because he knows best. Bet Krancjar gets given far more time to show us he has the inclination to do it week in week out than Faurlin ever will. Am I the only person on here who has been less than impressed by his efforts in the last two games? I won't even bother with Hoilett. Nobody can possibly excuse his abject performance last night when he. almost single-handedly managed to destroy every promising opportunity we had. "Was a big threat" Is he having a laugh? I hope he was simply answering a direct question/criticism of Hoilett by defending him in public but that he will take him to one side and have a word in his ear. We'll see. I'm not in the mood to waste another two seasons with him they way we did with SWP before, finally, he was consigned to the reserves.
Two strikers doesn't automatically mean more goals. Virtually all our midfield players are better suited to playing in a 4-2-3-1 / 4-5-1. We just need a little bit more urgency going forward and we've got the midfield and strikers to win games comfortably. There's a reason very few teams play two genuine strikers.
Hmm,I can tell you right now that if we play one(often isolated) striker for the rest of the season,we will be lucky to make the playoffs!. Its not so much about having two strikers, its more about having the right two strikers. Austin/Johnson are to similar so we would need a big, target man to be able to play two strikers. Why did Harry get Chevantoen if hes not going to play him?. He looks very similar to Austin/Johnson anyway. Havnt we been here before with our lack of strikers??. Austin is not quick enough to use pace and is not really a target man.I'm starting to get a bit concerned with Harry's comments.
No problems with a lone striker when playing away but does seem overly negative when at home unless have some prolific goalscorers from midfield which we don't.
It all hinges on the 3 behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1. Those 3 need to be very fluid and the wide 2 need to get forward quickly when we attack. Phillips seems to be a big disappointment, thus we haven't been able to play two quick wide men. Harry has always liked wingers and I expect him to percivere with Hoilett and Phillips. Hoilett has had to play in the hole in the absence of Kranky.
