Chris Ramsey says he saw no obvious sign that Mauro Zarate was adversely affected by QPR’s attempt to send him back to West Ham.
Rangers wanted to end the striker’s loan deal ahead of the transfer deadline and instead bring in Hammers winger Matt Jarvis.
Premier League rules meant the deal was a non-starter and Harry Redknapp, who left QPR the following day, was unable to add to his squad.
But Ramsey, who was subsequently installed as head coach, has played down suggestions that the saga made it difficult for Zarate, 27, to stay at Loftus Road.
“I didn’t see any noticeable change. I wasn’t involved in that, so I don’t know,” Ramsey said.
Zarate’s fitness was a concern for QPR’s management as soon as he arrived and he has not started a first-team game since moving to west London.
The player is currently back at West Ham receiving treatment on an injury.
Ramsey explained: “He’s not fit and available. As far as I know he’s having treatment back at his parent club. If he becomes fit he will be in consideration.”
