IMHO we will do well to get Top 6 without our best striker all season. I don't see any of the other being prolific enough unless they all chip in 7-8 each. Proschwitz - I've got doubts over his toughness in the box, not as aggressive as Parkin, Burgess as a big man. Simpson - I like him, his hold up play has been good, we need him to crack on TBH and score more Mclean - yeah we all like him, workhorse etc but he's supposed to net more and we keep getting scuffs and point blank misses. Aluko - not an out and out striker but a talented lad, tries to be fancy sometimes. Cullen - won't get a look in Koren should chip in with a few and if he and Quinn also contribute then maybe they'll prove me wrong.. I hope so. I see around 10 clubs with a chance this season. Only stand out team are.... wait for it... Leicester.
Agreed. Simpson's looking as though he needs four chances before he scores this Season - thank God we're actually creating that amount of chances usually, McLean is his usual and looks more like a defender when it comes to finishing, Proschwitz I think is still adapting and needs more playing time, if he starts, it should be alongside Simpson/Aluko not McLean, Cullen is ****e, Aluko gives us that extra something, drives everybody forward. We'll be fine without Matty *Crossed fingers* however he probably would have taken double if he had the same chances Simpson has had.
Aluko and Simpson have started brightly & seem to have a good partnership, but are definately coming under more scrutiny from defenders thanks to their early season form. We're creating alot of chances- but both are quite wasteful. Their link up play is good and, particularly at home, they run the defences ragged. Bruce made a mistake not starting with these two against Boro.
He made the mistake of starting McLean instead of Aluko, there's no way he wasn't going to start Nick
I agree that Aluko is not an out-and-out striker because he's too wasteful in front of goal and he likes to drop deep. But Simpson wasteful? He's our only clinical finisher, I find it incredibe that his shooting is criticised, especially when everyone accepts incredible profligacy from Fryatt.
Sometimes good strikers use their instinct and positioning to make unlikely chances seem like good ones. I'm happier to see a striker getting on the end of everything and missing a high proportion than one who scores when it's presented on a silver platter but is otherwise anonymous.
The thing with this injury is he could feel his achilles tighten before the Rovverham game, didnt tell the manager cos he wanted to play and then royally buggered it. Yes it is commendable that he wanted to play and make an impression on Bruce but I bet he doesnt do that again.
